2009 Georgia Centennial Farms Awards
The 2009 Georgia Centennial Farms Awards will be held on Thursday, October 8 at the opening day of the Georgia National Fair in Perry, Georgia. The ceremony will begin with a luncheon followed by the awards presentation. This year's keynote speaker is Commissioner Chris Clark of the Georgia Department of Natural Resources. The 1912 Stripling-Lovelady House is on this year's "Sites Worth Saving" list.
The Cherokee County Historical Society has launched their inaugural "Sites Worth Saving" list at www.rockbarn.org/sitesworthsaving. Visitors can view and vote on which sites they think should receive assistance.These properties have been chosen because they are significant to Cherokee County's cultural heritage and are threatened by neglect, demolition or inappropriate development. The list is intended to show widespread community support for their preservation and to assist the property owners with a preservation plan.
Georgia Trust unveils redesigned Web site
The Georgia Trust for Historic Preservation has recently launched a redesigned version of their Web site. Among other improvements, visitors can now join/renew memberships, register for Trust events, and make donations directly from the site. Visit the new site at www. georgiatrust.org.

The National Trust for Historic Preservtion has launched an online guide offering homeowners a one-stop resource with the latest information about how to make their home more energy-efficient and comfortable without spending a lot of money or compromising the historic character of their home. Called the "Weatherization Guide for Older and Historic Buildings," it can be found at www.preservationnation.org/issues/ weatherization/. Available grants
James Marston Fitch Charitable Foundation award nominations sought The James Marston Fitch Charitable Foundation will award research grants of up to $25,000 to mid-career professionals who have an academic background, professional experience, and an established identity in historic preservation or related field. The organization also will grant its biennial Richard L. Blinder Award of up to $15,000 for the best proposal exploring the preservation of an existing structure, complex of buildings, or genre of building type for use for a cultural purpose. Partnership in Scholarship Grants for African American Historic Places These grants will support collaborative projects between African American historic places and college/ university scholars. This year, four grants of $15,000 each (no match required) will be awarded in the fall of 2009 to projects that help sustain current or attract new audiences at historic sites or enhance the interpretation of challenging topics at historic sites. Preservation Services Fund Grants Administered by the National Trust for Historic Preservation, these
grants are awarded to nonprofit organizations and public agencies for preservation planning and education efforts. Grant awards range from $500 to $5,000. National Endowment for the Humanities, Division of Public Programs grants The National Endowment for the Humanities, Division of Public Programs funds public projects at museums, libraries, historic sites, and other historical and cultural organizations. The grants support historic site interpretation, exhibits, reading or film discussion series, symposia, and digital projects. The application deadline for funds from America's Historical and Cultural Organizations and Interpreting America's Historic Places programs is January 13, 2010.
