Chris Clark confirmed to be next DNR commissioner
The Board of Natural Resources has approved the recommendation of Governor Sonny Perdue to name Chris Clark as the next Commissioner of the Georgia Department of Natural Resources (DNR). Clark will succeed Noel Holcomb as commissioner when Holcomb retires in April 2009.
Clark currently serves as the Executive Director of the Georgia Environmental Facilities Authority (GEFA). GEFA serves as the state environmental bank by providing financing for water and sewer infrastructure projects and is home to the State Energy Office. Prior to his appointment at GEFA, Clark served for four years as Deputy Commissioner at the Georgia Department of Economic Development. A native of Fitzgerald, Clark earned a bachelor's degree from Georgia Southern University, and a master's degree in public administration from Georgia College and State University.
As DNR Commissioner, Clark will oversee an agency comprised of nearly 3,000 employees that is responsible for the management and conservation of Georgia's wildlife, the protection and conservation of coastal marshlands, the preservation of historic resources, and the implementation of environmentally sound business practices for industry. DNR operates over one million acres of public lands to protect wildlife diversity and to provide outdoor recreational opportunities such as hunting, fishing, hiking, and camping. In addition, DNR enforces the laws that regulate the protection and use of Georgia's natural resources, including hunting, fishing and boating. Visit the Georgia DNR Web site at http://www.gadnr.org/

Boyhood Home of President Woodrow Wilson named NHL
Secretary of the Interior Dick Kempthorne designated the Boyhood Home of President Woodrow Wilson in Augusta, Georgia as a new National Historic Landmark on October 6, 2008. The designation recognizes the sites as nationally significant historic places because they possess exceptional value or quality in illustrating or interpreting the heritage of the United States. Less than 2,500 historic resources are currently National Historic Landmarks, the highest designation a building, site, district, structure or object can receive in our nation. The Boyhood Home of President Woodrow Wilson, which is owned and operated by Historic Augusta, Inc., opened as a house museum in September 2001. For more information, call Historic Augusta at 706-724-0436 or visit http://www.wilsonboyhoodhome.org. Learn more about NHLs on the National Park Service website at www.nps.gov/history/nhl/.
