Introducing HPD's new Environmental Review Form
HPD would like to introduce our new Environmental Review Form http://hpd.dnr.state.ga.us/assets/documents/final_er_form2.doc. The ER Form, available on our website under ER Program Information and Section 106 (http://hpd.dnr.state.ga.us/content/displaycontent.asp?txtDocument=314), has been developed by our staff to aid project applicants in preparing the information necessary to complete review under Section 106 of the National Historic Preservation Act, the Georgia Environmental Policy Act (GEPA), or the Georgia State Agency Historic Property Stewardship Program. This new form has been designed to facilitate and accelerate the ER process in our office. The Form is self-explanatory and should help project applicants understand what exactly is required for review under Section 106 and other laws, as well as provide a better understanding of the review process.
The ER Form is accompanied by certain supporting information. A Historic Resources Form (link), located below the ER Form on our website, is intended to provide our reviewers more specific information about historic structures when they are located within or adjacent to a project's area of potential effect (APE). The Historic Resources Form, when completed, gives HPD an improved ability to take into consideration historic resources, their integrity, and any effects projects may have on them. There are also examples of maps and site plans accompanying these two forms on our website. These maps and site plans are intended to illustrate good examples of supplemental information we have received in previous projects.
We are eager to hear how useful and helpful these forms prove to be. Please feel free to contact Michelle Volkema, Environmental Review Specialist, at michelle_volkema@dnr.state.ga.us or (404) 651-6546, with any comments or questions you may have.

Don't Wait Until Your Birthday to Order Your Tag!
Many of you may be waiting to order your historic preservation license plate when you receive official notification from your county tax commissioner that it's time to renew your tag. However, here are three reasons NOT to wait until your birthday to order your preservation plate: 1) The sooner we reach 1,000 orders, the sooner we will each receive our plates to put on our vehicles! 2) It's easier to mail in the order form now, while you're thinking about it, instead of chancing that you may forget to send it in with your other renewal materials later. 3) It's also simpler just to send in one order form now, by itself, with a $25 check. License plate orders are increasing steadily, about 15-20 per week, with our current number at 258. For more information on how to order the historic preservation license plate or help spread the word, please contact grants coordinator Carole Moore at 404-463-8434 or email her at carole_moore@dnr.state.ga.us. To view the plate, access the order form, and locate the nearest tag office, go to HPD's website at www.gashpo.org.
