Preservation tags make original holiday gifts

2007 Historic Landscape and Garden Grant program
The Garden Club of Georgia, Inc. is accepting applications for its annual grants program to promote awareness of the state's historic landscapes and gardens. Non-profits and local governments are eligible to apply for 50/50 matching grants. The maximum award is $3000. Eligible projects include restoration of designed gardens and landscapes; historic landscape/garden restoration plans; and cultural landscape reports. Project work must promote responsible preservation practices. Funding priority is given to gardens and landscapes listed in the Georgia Register of Historic Places, either individually or as part of a historic district. Applications must be received by January 31, 2007. Awards will be announced at the Garden Club's State Convention to be held in April. For an application go to www.uga.edu/gardenclub/GrantGuide.html.

2007 Your Town program accepting applications
The National Endowment for the Arts will be funding four "Your Town: The Citizens' Institute on Rural Design" workshops and are seeking your interest in producing a workshop between now and November 2007. This is an opportunity to bring design professionals to your community to help you tackle critical regional planning and design issues. Up to $22,000 will be available from the Endowment for each workshop. Application deadline is Friday, December 22nd. Visit www.yourtowndesign.org for more information.

Online Historic Campus Architecture Project
The Council of Independent Colleges (CIC) has launched a new website, the CIC Historic Campus Architecture Project (HCAP), the first nationwide architecture and landscape database of independent college and university campuses. The CIC HCAP website provides extensive information about significant buildings, landscapes, campus plans, and heritage sites of American higher education. www.cic.edu/hcap.

Positions available in Georgia
The City of Norcross is seeking a historic preservation consultant to prepare a historic resources survey of the city and associated boundary map for a local historic district. All work shall conform to the Secretary of the Interior's Standards and Guidelines for Archeology and Historic Preservation, to National Register Bulletin 24 (Guidelines for Local Surveys: A Basis for Preservation Planning), and to the Georgia Historic Resources Survey Manual.
