2006 General Assembly Update #1
The Governor's SFY 2007 budget proposal has been released. Most of the budget for HPD remains the same, however, recommendations include a $34,000 decrease in RDC funding to reduce the number of planners from 14 to 12, in line with DCA's service delivery regions. Georgia Heritage grant funding remains the same as last year at $129,276. Funding for the Civil War Commission remains the same at $50,000. The SFY 2007 budget does not include funding for the Courthouse Initiative. For additional information about legislative and budget issues, contact Glen Bennett, GaPA's staff contact, at the Georgia Trust, 404-885-7804, gbennett@georgiatrust.org.

Assembled from porcelain-enameled steel panels between 1948 and 1950, less than 2,500 of these "prefab" homes were produced. RFPs will be accepted until April 12, 2006. Pictures, applications and more information are available at http://www.lustronsatquantico.com/home.html

Waterwitch to rise again
The National Civil War Naval Museum at Port Columbus is raising funds to build the USS Waterwitch, a reproduction of the CSS Waterwitch, a sidewheel steamer blockade-runner built in 1852. The Waterwitch was made famous by a daring Confederate Navy commando raid near Savannah in 1864. For more information, visit http://www.portcolumbus.org/waterwitch.htm
