Nominations sought for State Stewardship Preservation Awards program
The Historic Preservation Division is accepting nominations for the State Stewardship Preservation Awards. The purpose of this award program is to recognize outstanding leadership and achievement in historic preservation stewardship of state-owned or administered properties. Deadline for applications: received at HPD by February 24, 2006.
Criteria for accepting nominations: Nominees must be current state employee(s) who have made significant contributions to the identification, evaluation and preservation of historic properties either owned or otherwise administered by the state or affected by state projects. The nominees' contributions may be local, regional or statewide in scope. Significant contributions may include, but are not limited to: rehabilitation of historic buildings, survey and research, preservation plans, maintenance and upkeep of historic properties, publicity and outreach programs, education and interpretive displays, publications, etc. The focus of the awards is to honor the achievements of state employee(s) in furthering the preservation of Georgia's historic properties. Congratulations Augusta Canal NHA on their Save Our History grant
The History Channel has announced the recipients of the Save Our History National Grants for the 2005-2006 grant cycle. This year, The History Channel will award $250,000 in grants to 26 history organizations across the country. The Augusta Canal National Heritage Area will receive a grant: Elementary and High School students will research the century-old celebration of the "Fantastics" 4th of July parade tradition in Augusta. Grants
The History Channel is preparing to launch the third cycle of the Save Our History Grant Program. The grants are available to preservation organizations, historical societies, museums, libraries, and archives. The deadline for submitting an application for the 2006-2007 Grant Program is June 2, 2006. Nonprofit organizations and governmental agencies are encouraged to apply for grants from the Alice Rosenwald Flexible Fund, which will be used to raise awareness of Rosenwald Schools, aid in their documentation and to increase participation and support for their preservation and use. Save America's Treasures grants are available for preservation and/or conservation work on nationally significant intellectual and cultural artifacts and historic structures and sites. Intellectual and cultural artifacts include artifacts, collections, documents, sculpture, and works of art. Historic structures and sites include historic districts, sites, buildings, structures, and objects. The deadline is April 18, 2006.
