In 1931, Indian Springs State Park and Vogel State Park joined to create the beginning of Georgia's state parks system, one of the oldest park systems in the nation. During 2006, the Georgia Department of Natural Resources will celebrate 75 years of protecting natural, cultural and recreational resources for generations to come. DeKalb History Center awarded Local History Achievement Award
The DeKalb History Center (DHC) was recently awarded the Roger K. Warlick Local History Achievement Award at the Georgia Historical Society's (GHS) Annual Meeting in Savannah. This award recognizes outstanding achievement in the field of public history by a GHS affiliate chapter. The DHC received the award for its successful program, the 2005 DeKalb Heritage Festival, held last September at the DeKalb History Park. The DHC hosted over 860 4th and 5th graders. "Our goal was to transport students back to the 1800's and teach them what it was like growing up during this formative time in DeKalb history," said Sue Ellen Williams, Executive Director of the DeKalb History Center. Congratulations!
