HPD wants your input for Georgia's next state historic preservation plan
The Historic Preservation Division (HPD) of the Department of Natural Resources, Georgia's State Historic Preservation Office, has begun the process of updating the state historic preservation plan. The plan establishes the priorities and policies to guide the Division's preservation efforts for the next five years (2006-11).
As part of the planning process, we'd like your input in our online survey. Go to our Web site, www.gashpo.org and click on the link: Attention-give us your input for a new state plan! A print version of the survey will be mailed out in September. Be one of the first to fill it out!
In addition, HPD will be holding two public forums to solicit input to help set goals and priorities and to develop a plan that will be effective and useful to the Division, the preservation community and stakeholders who use the Division's services. The forums will provide information about HPD's programs and services and about the historic preservation planning process and will allow for public input on various preservation issues.
October 18 - 5:00 to 7:00PM - Lyndon House Community Room, 293 Hoyt Street, Athens. In cooperation with the Northeast Georgia Regional Development Center, the Athens-Clarke County Planning Department and Athens-Clarke Heritage Foundation.
October 19 - 5:00 to 7:00PM - Tifton Welcome Station, 504 Main Street S, Tifton. In cooperation with the South Georgia Regional Development Center and the City of Tifton Main Street program.

National Register News
The Folds House, located on Georgia Highway 16, south of Carrollton, was listed in the National Register of Historic Places on August 24, 2005.
The Folds House is significant for its association with Eric Vernon Folds. His four automobile dealerships and a Texaco franchise in Carrollton established him as a civic leader and prominent local businessman.
The Folds House is a high-style Colonial Revival-style residence in the early mid20th century "Williamsburg" mode, made popular by the restoration and reconstruction of colonial houses in Williamsburg, beginning in the early 20th century. Atlanta architect, Clement J. Ford, who is well known for his "traditional" or historically derived architectural designs, built the house in 1948.

More information about the Local Development Fund, including a complete set of program guidelines, can be found at http://www.dca.state.ga.us/economic/financing/programs/ldf.asp.
