Economic benefits of battlefield preservation
Blue, Gray and Green: A Battlefield Benefits Guide for Community Leaders is a new study released by the Civil War Preservation Trust, available at www.civilwar.org/news/append/BGG_2005_lowres.pdf. It finds that battlefields attract affluent, well-educated tourists who come to the area specifically to visit the battlefield and who are likely to stay longer and spend more than the average pleasure visitor to the community. A "Battlefield Benefits Index" shows how these

findings can be applied in other communities, including as a tool to promote battlefield preservation in the face of development pressures.
