Mildred Colodny Scholarship for Graduate Study in Historic Preservation
Administered by the National Trust for Historic Preservation, the scholarship program provides financial assistance and experiential learning opportunities to individuals preparing for careers in historic preservation. The purpose of the Colodny Scholarship is to increase the diversity of people pursuing degrees and careers in historic preservation in the United States. The National Trust is seeking culturally diverse applicants whose commitment to historic preservation will be strengthened by obtaining a graduate degree in preservation, who will benefit from the internship and mentorship opportunities provided by the Trust, and who ultimately will contribute valuable, diverse perspectives to - and become leaders in - the field of preservation. Applications must be postmarked or received by fax no later than January 31. For applications and more information, visit www.nationaltrust.org and click on About the Trust/Jobs & Internships. Or contact David Field, Colodny Scholarship Coordinator, at 800-944-NTHP x6124 or via email at david_field@nthp.org.

Calls for nominations
The Paul E. Buchanan Award was instituted by Vernacular Architecture Forum (VAF) in 1993 to recognize contributions to the study and preservation of vernacular architecture and the cultural landscape that did not take the form of books or published work. Hundreds of studies, reports, documentation projects, restoration plans, National Register nominations, exhibits, video productions and public programs are completed each year without the benefit of distribution or recognition beyond the limited audience for which they were commissioned. Named for Paul E. Buchanan of Williamsburg, Virginia, who inspired many VAF members in the rewards of fieldwork, this award confers credit to the valuable work that VAF members and professional associates perform. The 2006 application is available at
http://www.vernaculararchitectureforum.org/specialprograms/buchanan.htm . The entry deadline is January 15, 2006. For more information, contact Mark Reinberger at reinberg@uga.edu
The Society for History in the Federal Government (SHFG) awards eight prizes. The purpose of all Society awards is to recognize and encourage excellence in the study of the history of the federal government. Awards and prize competition, judged by professional historians, archivists, documentary editors, curators, and preservationists, should help draw attention to outstanding and praiseworthy work. The Society hopes that the result will be increased appreciation of both the federal government's history and the efforts of those who, through a variety of methods and media, explore that history. Each prize consists of a framed certificate to be presented at the Society's annual spring meeting, held in Washington, D.C. For a more detailed explanation of the award, criteria for selection, and application procedures, please visit the Society's award website at http://www.shfg.org/tawards.html.
Historic buildings are not the only treasures on our nation's cultural endangered species list America's landscape legacy of gardens is also at risk. The results will be posted on the TCLF website and published in Garden Design. Application deadline is January 31. For more information, visit www.tclf.org/landslide.
