Georgia adds 6 new Preserve America designations
On March 20, Department of the Interior Secretary Gale Norton presented six new Preserve America community designations in Georgia at a ceremony hosted by Mayor Bob Young in Augusta, Georgia's first designation. Macon, Monticello, Madison, Rome, Whitfield County and Kennesaw received certificates personally signed by First Lady Laura Bush. This was the first Preserve America designation ceremony to be held outside of Washington DC and of the 34 communities currently designated, seven are in Georgia. HPD director Ray Luce, who also attended the ceremony, said, "These communities recognize the importance their heritage plays in quality of life, economic development and education. We congratulate them and look forward to future designations in Georgia." For more information and an application, go to www.preserveamerica.gov

New Web site about federal tax incentives
Technical Preservation Services, National Park Service, has posted a new information program, INCENTIVES! A Guide To The Federal Historic Preservation Tax Incentives Program For Income-Producing Properties - http://www2.cr.nps.gov/tps/tax/incentives/ - to assist historic building owners, preservation consultants, community officials, architects and developers in the process of seeking the 20% federal tax credit for rehabilitation. The program answers basic questions about the tax credit; provides general guidance on preparing and submitting application forms, documentation requirements, timing, reviews, and the overall decision-making process; and explains how the Secretary of the Interior's Standards for Rehabilitation are applied to project work. A featured section, Avoiding Incompatible Work, shows examples of compatible and incompatible approaches to rehabilitation work using annotated illustrations. For more information, contact Sharon C. Park, Phone Number: 202-354-2033; Email: sharon_park@nps.gov
