Coastal Incentive Grant (CIG) Program
Funding Themes include: 1)Coastal Non-Point Source Pollution Control; 2)Freshwater Inflow to the Coast; 3)Emergent Threats to the Coastal Natural Systems; 4)Preservation, Identification, Interpretation, and Management of Coastal Historical, Archeological, and Cultural Resources.
Eligible Applicants: State governments (except Ga DNR), Qualified Local Governments; and State Colleges, Universities and Research Institutions. Notification of Funding Availability (NOFA) - Georgia Coastal Management Program. Funding Type: Reimbursement Grant. Contracting Period: 12 Month Grant (Deliverables must be completed within the time period of October 1, 2005 - September 30, 2006). Estimated Total Program Funding: $644,830; Maximum Award Amount Eligible: $100,00 (Theme Related), $25,00 (Demonstrated Critical Local Need); Matching Requirement: 1:1 Non-Federal Match Required. Proposals and all supporting documentation must be received at the DNR Coastal Resources Division Headquarters by 1/31/2005. Facsimile and email copies will not be accepted. Proposals received after 1/31/2005 will not be reviewed. Original Due Date for Applications: January 31, 2005. Additional Information on Eligibility: Eligible projects must be physically located within at least one of the eleven (11) designated Georgia counties within the Georgia Coastal Management Program (GCMP). Projects which are regional in scope or which partner multiple counties must be physically located within the GCMP eligible counties. GCMP eligible counties include Brantley, Bryan, Camden, Chatham, Charlton, Effingham, Glynn, Liberty, Long, McIntosh, and Wayne.

NPS Web site on earthworks preservation
The National Park Service has established a Web site on the sustainable management of military earthworks. It includes guidance for evaluating the condition of earthworks and developing and implementing a management strategy. http://www2.cr.nps.gov/hli/currents/earthworks/.

NAGPRA database available
The Native American Graves Protection and Repatriation Act (NAGPRA) requires an inventory of culturally unidentifiable human remains. A pilot database is now available online at http://www.cr.nps.gov/nagpra/ONLINEDB/INDEX.HTM and provides users with access to a compilation of verified data from several museums and federal agencies. Many of the human remains described in the database, originally inventoried as culturally unidentifiable, have been affiliated as a result of consultation or transferred upon the recommendation of the NAGPRA review committee.

National History Day
The theme for the 2005 National History Day Contest is "Communication in History: The Key to Understanding." The national contest will be June 12-16 at the University of Maryland. Gilder Lehrman Summer Seminars
Applications for the 2005 summer seminars offered by the Gilder Lehrman Institute of American History are now available. The series is designed to strengthen participants' commitment to quality in teaching history. Public, parochial, and independent schoolteachers, (and National Park Service rangers) are eligible. The weeklong seminars provide intellectual stimulation and a
collaborative context for developing practical resources and strategies to take back to the classroom. Seminars are taught by leading historians in the field and are tuition-free. HPD Grants Coordinator position available
The Historic Preservation Division is seeking a Historic Preservation Program (Grants) Coordinator for mandated federal and state grant programs, including Historic Preservation Fund Grants for Certified Local Governments and Georgia Heritage Grants. The position is located in HPD's Technical Services Unit. Qualifications require completion of an undergraduate degree in planning, historic preservation, architectural history, history, or related field, and two years of professional experience in historic preservation activities. Preference will be given to applicants with a Master's degree in any of the disciplines listed under training and experience. The Georgia Trust for Historic Preservation seeks responsible, organized, selfmotivated individual to assist Senior Director of Properties. Handles records and communications including operation, planning and programs of two historic sites. Drafts letters, position statements and other documents. Evaluates departmental goals, provides updates to strategic plan and recommends operational improvements. Participates in coordination of meetings and special events. Other duties as assigned by Senior Director. Bachelor's degree preferred. Working knowledge of preservation practice or museum standards preferred. Excellent communications skills, ability to organize multiple tasks simultaneously, proficiency with computers and records management, book keeping experience, commitment to historic preservation and positive attitude. Terranext LLC is looking for an individual to work as an on-call starting in January to perform Phase I surveys for cellular tower sites. This individual must have an RPA. Applicant must be willing to survey alone in the field and work in the following states: Alabama, Tennessee, Georgia, Mississippi, Florida, North Carolina, and South Carolina. Please note these surveys usually consist of site testing very small areas and may include historic building surveys on occasion. A rental car will be provided for fieldwork.
