HPD staff news
Jennifer ("Jenny") Freemyer will be joining HPD as Survey and National Register Program Specialist on Monday, August 23. Jenny has a history degree from the University of Wisconsin and is completing her master's degree in historic preservation at the University of Wisconsin's School of Landscape Architecture. For the past year she has worked part-time as an assistant for the survey and National Register programs in the Wisconsin state historic preservation office. She has interned with the National Park Service at the Great Smoky Mountains National Park and with Mead & Hunt, a preservation consulting firm in the Midwest. She also has worked part-time in the Wisconsin State Historical Society Library, and she mentored in the office of the state archaeologist in Minnesota. Welcome to Georgia and HPD!

Popular Culture Association Conference Request for proposals
35th Annual Popular Culture Association Conference in San Diego, California - March 23-26, 2005. Popular Art, Architecture and Design is concerned with the aesthetics of popular material culture in the everyday world of the past, present and future. Scholars from such disciplines as Architecture, Art History, Fine Art, Industrial Design, and Interior Design are invited to submit proposals. At previous conferences topics have included World Fairs, architectural follies, urban image, Buckminster Fuller, Tadao Ando, urban memory, Disneyland, railroad stations, literary architecture, Vietnamese shop-houses, mobile homes, and the effect of television on home and clothing design. 2005-2006 Research Fellowship Winterthur Museum, Garden and Library
Winterthur Museum, Garden and Library invites applications for its 2005-2006 Research Fellowship Program. Approximately twenty-five residential fellowships of one to twelve months will be awarded to scholars pursuing topics in American history, art, architecture, decorative arts, material culture, and design, with stipends of $1,500 to $3,333 per month. NEH grants, Lois F. McNeil dissertation grants, and a variety of short-term fellowships are available for academic and independent scholars, graduate students and museum and public history professionals. The Shenandoah-Dives Mill HAER and Historic Structure Assessment Workshop, Silverton, Colorado, September 13-17 covers all aspects of Historic American Engineering Record (HAER) documentation and Historic Structure Assessment including: Understanding the levels of HAER documentation; Creating measured drawings; Photographic standards; Historic research; Stabilization and preservation principals; Understanding structure and failure; developing a Historic Structure Assessment; Conceptual cost estimates; Laser mapping technology and x-ray use in determining structure conditions; Seminars on the milling process; Historic archaeology field session; Weather dependant alternative field sessions. Positions available in Georgia
Head of Museum Interpretation - Permanent, Full Time, Public Sector - State, Position Number GA7304771. Collaborates with curatorial and exhibitions departments, and other education divisions to conceptualize, develop, and implement interpretation program for the permanent collection and temporary exhibitions. Programs include: tours for general public (audio and docent), gallery didactics, multi-media materials, gallery guides, in-gallery educational activities and spaces. Manages exhibition development for Family Learning Gallery. Analyzes data from questionnaires, interviews, and group discussions to evaluate interpretive materials for general public (adults, families, and children). Provides training for and manages docents for general public tours. Prepares and manages budget and determines allocation of funds for contract staff, supplies, and equipment. Works with Publications Department to produce gallery printed materials. Collaborates with PR/Marketing to promote and market interpretive activities in the permanent collection and temporary exhibitions. Supervisory Responsibilities: Directly supervises two employees in the Museum Interpretation Division and contract staff. Carries out supervisory responsibilities in accordance with the organization s policies and applicable laws. Responsibilities include interviewing, hiring, and training employees; planning, assigning, and directing work;
