Northeast Georgia RDC wins award for Gospel Pilgrim Cemetery preservation project
The Northeast Georgia Regional Development Center has received a 2004 Innovation Award from the National Association of Development Organizations (NADO) for the Gospel Pilgrim Cemetery Restoration Project. NADO, a Washington, D.C. based public interest group, recognizes organizations for demonstrating innovative approaches to economic and community development. According to NADO President Gary Gorshing, "These award winning projects and programs truly represent the community and economic development benefits of acting regionally, especially in rural communities where resources are often sparse." To find out more about NADO, call 202-624-7806 or visit www.nado.org.
Burke Walker, historic preservation planner with the Northeast Georgia RDC, nominated the project. "A large part of the project was archaeology and National Register process that HPD helped with and was an integral partner," he said. For more information about the Gospel Pilgrim Cemetery preservation project, you may contact Burke at 706-3695650, ext. 316 or bwalker@negrdc.org
