NPS STUDY ON THE COSTS OF CURATION
A study on the costs of curating archeological collections completed by the National Park Service's Archeology and Ethnography program is available online at www.cr.nps.gov/aad/tools/feesstud.htm. Conducted by Terry Childs and Karolyn

Kinsey, the study looks at the "curation crisis" and the fee structures that have been adopted by many U.S. repositories to help improve the care of archeological collections.

COMMUNITY DEVELOPMENT FILM AVAILABLE FOR LOAN FROM GTHP
What happens when an impoverished, working-class town decides that its only hope for survival lies within the world of contemporary art? Can these disparate worlds benefit each other? And why would they even try? "Downside UP" captures the beginnings of American's largest museum of contemporary art, MASS MoCA (Massachusetts Museum of Contemporary Art) and the rebirth of its host city, North Adams. Through the eyes of filmmaker Nancy Kelly, the film renders the subtle changes in the spirit of a region. This documentary captures the struggles of the people of North Adams in their redefinition of their community, envisaging a new city, and puzzling with their role in an alien form of expression: contemporary art. Historic preservation is one of the themes of the film. If you are interested in borrowing this film to aid in community redevelopment efforts, please contact Alison Tyrer at The Georgia Trust for Historic Preservation (GTHP): atyrer@georgiatrust.org or 404-881-9980.
