ACADEMIC CONFERENCE REQUEST FOR PROPOSALS
Gender, Taste, and Material Culture in Britain and America in the Long Eighteenth Century conference in San Marino, California, May 20-21, 2004. The Object Relations in Early North America Workshop seeks proposals on the material world in early North America. Participants are asked to think about how object-driven studies can address important historical questions. Moving through the analyzed object to larger arguments about life in the past, workshop sessions might include: aesthetic apprehension; experience of the perceiving individual, and the collective construction of meaning; objects structuring experience; production, circulation, consumption, representativeness, and symbolic character; and context of an object changing the understanding of the historical moment. The submission deadline is October 1, 2003. Proposals should be addressed to the Workshop Co-Chairs, Christopher Grasso and Karin Wulf, OIEAHC, P.O. Box 8781, Williamsburg, VA, 23187-8781.

INSTITUTE OF MUSEUM AND LIBRARY SERVICES CONSERVATION PROJECT SUPPORT GRANTS

Conservation Project Support grants help museums develop a logical, institution-wide approach to caring for their living and nonliving collections. Applicants should apply for the project that meets the institution's highest conservation needs. All applications must demonstrate that the primary goal of the project is conservation care and not collection management or maintenance. The application deadline is October 15, 2003.
