QUALITY GROWTH GRANT AVAILABLE
The next application deadline for a Quality Growth Grant from the Georgia Department of Community Affairs (DCA) is Thursday, May 15, 2003. Eligible applicants are limited to Georgia municipalities, counties and consolidated governments. Please submit one original copy of the grant application and be sure to include the required supporting documentation (outlined on the application form). FAX copies will not be accepted. ATLANTA'S LANDSCAPE LEGACY LECTURE SERIES
A lecture series on Atlanta's Landscape Legacy will be held Friday and Saturday, April 11-12, 2003 in McElreath Hall at the Atlanta History Center. The series is sponsored by the Southern Garden History, the Georgia Chapter of the Southern Garden History Society, and the Cherokee Garden Library. Lecturers include historian Darlene Roth, Atlanta landscape architect Spencer
Tunnell, Georgia Tech professor Douglas C. Allen, author William R. Mitchell, Jr., and architectural historian Elizabeth M. Dowling. Topics include the influence of Olmsted's work in Atlanta, the work of Neel Reid and Philip Shutze, Atlanta's Northside garden heritage, and southern garden literature. PBS SERIES HISTORY DETECTIVES IN GEORGIA
"History Detectives" is a new PBS series that investigates questions posed by the public about some of history's mysteries. Their team of historians and antiquities experts will set out to answer questions about some of Georgia's "undiscovered treasures": artifacts recently discovered whose history is unclear; historic homes and other buildings/ facilities whose rich past may not be fully known and family heirlooms with an unknown, or only partially known past. MESDA / UNCG SUMMER INSTITUTE
The focus of the institute is on southern history and southern decorative arts before 1820 and is designed for graduate students and museum personnel interested in American history and material culture. The program curriculum includes lectures, discussions, workshops, artifact studies, research projects, and field trips. Topics will include historical archaeology, artifact analysis, connoisseurship, research methods, conservation principles, and social and economic history. Three hours of graduate credit in History or Interior Design are awarded through the University. The institute will take place June 22 through July 18, 2003 in Old Salem, WinstonSalem, North Carolina. The application deadline is April 21, 2003. QUINQUE FELLOWS PROGRAM
The Quinque Fellows Program is designed to increase and enhance the fund of conservation skills in both the United States and Scotland. It aims to achieve this principally by encouraging the exchange of knowledge and sharing of skills between conservation/preservation practitioners and professionals in these two countries.
