ELIZABETH LYON FUND
The Historic Preservation Division (HPD) and The Georgia Trust are working to activate the Elizabeth Lyon Fund, an endowment fund created in 1994 when "Liz" retired as HPD's director and SHPO. Earlier this year, a task force outlined goals for supporting projects that acquaint undergraduate or graduate students and young professionals with preservation programs and
practices. The 2003 Georgians for Preservation Action internship was chosen as the initial project because of its wide-ranging benefits to public and private, statewide and local preservation needs. Terri Gillett, a first year graduate student in Georgia State's heritage preservation program, was selected for the internship. The task force raised money to underwrite the internship and contributions in honor of Carole Griffith's recent retirement from HPD were also directed to the fund. More projects are being considered that meet the fund's goals, especially preservation fellowships. Suggestions and comments can be directed to Carole Griffith at wgriff@mindspring.com. A more detailed report is included in the May/ June issue of the Rambler at www.georgiatrust.org/rambler.html
