2003 STATE STEWARDSHIP AWARDS DEADLINE IS JANUARY 15
The purpose of the State Stewardship awards program is to recognize outstanding leadership and achievement in historic preservation stewardship of state-owned or administered properties. Nominees must be current state employee(s) who have made significant contributions to the identification, evaluation and preservation of historic properties either owned or otherwise administered by the state or affected by state projects. The nominees' contributions may be local, regional or statewide in scope. Significant contributions may include, but are not limited to: rehabilitation of historic buildings, survey and research, preservation plans, maintenance and upkeep of historic properties, publicity and outreach programs, education and interpretive displays, publications, etc. The focus of the awards is to honor the achievements of state employee(s) in furthering the preservation of Georgia's historic properties. 2003 CENTENNIAL FARM APPLICATIONS AVAILABLE ONLINE
The Georgia Centennial Farm Program was created to draw attention to historic farms and to encourage their preservation. Nominees must be working farms for at least 100 years with a minimum of 10 acres actively involved in agricultural production or generate

at least $1,000 in annual income. In addition, farms must be owned by members of the same family for at least 100 years or be listed in the National Register of Historic Places. Qualifying Centennial Farms are honored each October at a special award ceremony at the Georgia National Fair in Perry, Georgia. During its first ten years, the program has recognized over 260 farms around the state. Applications are available on HPD's Web site at www.gashpo.org under Publications and Forms. LOCAL FOCUS: PORTERDALE
The Porterdale Historic Preservation Commission will receive $15,000 from HPD to sponsor a historic resources survey. A survey of the mill village will help further the new commission's goal of guiding development of the mills and the rapid alteration of the mill houses. They intend to follow the survey with design guidelines. Porterdale Historic District, in Newton County, was listed in the National Register September 17, 2001.

DNR POSITION AVAILABLE: PRESERVATION TECHNICIAN III
The Georgia Department of Natural Resources, Parks and Historic Sites Division is seeking a Preservation Technician to help care for the Division's historic artifact collections. This is a full-time hourly position. Applications must be postmarked, faxed or e-mailed no later than February 16, 2003. Applicants with an undergraduate degree or higher in conservation, museum studies, archaeology, art history or a closely related field are preferred. Knowledge of MSOffice and demonstrated ability to work as a team member required. Competitive wage scale and excellent State of Georgia benefits are being offered. Current State of Georgia employees may start at a higher rate depending on their current salary and job title. NCPTT GRANTS CALL FOR PROPOSALS
The National Center for Preservation Technology and Training (NCPTT) is pleased to announce that the 2003 PTTGrants Call for Proposals is now available online at: www.ncptt.nps.gov/PDFfiles/Call2003.pdf. NCPTT's grants program supports innovative projects in historic architecture, historic landscapes, archaeology and materials conservation. The focus of these projects shall be in preservation technology. The proposal deadline is February 1, 2003.
