HISTORIC PRESERVATION FUND NEWS
The Federal budget for 2003 has not yet been finalized. The Senate version includes a major cut in the historic preservation fund-- the fund that is used by the Historic Preservation Division to deliver services. Preservation Action and a national coalition are attempting to reverse those cuts. Georgia congressman Jack Kingston, a strong preservation supporter, may be on the conference committee to help preserve the higher level for the fund in the House budget. Preservation Action says it is not too late to sign on to a letter supporting the fund. So far nearly 100 Georgia organizations have signed on supporting the house funding level. For a list of Georgia organizations supporting the fund, and/or to sign on, please visit Preservation Action's Web site at: http://www.preservationaction.org/lobbying/approps_signon.htm#NATIONAL

2003 SAVE AMERICA'S TREASURES GRANTS
Applications are invited for the 2003 Federal Save America's Treasures Grants. At this time, Congress has not completed the appropriations for the Department of the Interior. Grants cannot

Grants are available for preservation and/or conservation work on nationally significant intellectual and cultural artifacts and nationally significant historic structures and sites. Grants are awarded through a competitive process. Applications must be received by Thursday, March 20, 2003. Visit http://www2.cr.nps.gov/treasures/ for an application and more information.

HUD'S SECRETARY'S AWARD FOR EXCELLENCE IN HISTORIC PRESERVATION
Call for Submissions: The National Trust for Historic Preservation and the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD) invite organizations and agencies to share their success by participating in the sixth annual HUD Secretary's Award for Excellence in Historic Preservation. One organization or individual will be honored for its work to advance the goals of historic preservation in a project that creates affordable housing and/or economic opportunities for low- or moderate- income families. Nominated projects or activities will be judged, among other things, on their community impact, the degree to which the project is unusual or pioneering, its quality, and its difficulty. Additional information is available by calling 1-800-245-2691 and selecting "Secretary's Awards" when prompted. The complete application can be downloaded at http://www.huduser.org/research/secaward.html#hist. NTHP'S ADVANCED PRESERVATION LEADERSHIP TRAINING (PLT/A) IN ORGANIZATIONAL EXCELLENCE
The goal of the National Trust for Historic Preservation's (NTHP) PLT/A in Organizational Excellence is to equip senior staff and board leaders with sophisticated management and leadership skills, equal to their preservation advocacy skills, that will contribute to the sustainability and capacity of their sponsoring organization. Organizational Excellence is designed primarily for experienced executive directors or senior management staff of nonprofit preservation organizations. Board members who are in line to assume leadership positions may also benefit from participation, as well as others with responsibility for organizational capacity building. This course will be held at Grand Isle, Vermont, July 27 August 1, 2003. The application deadline is Friday, June 6, 2003. Visit their Web site at www.nationaltrust.org/plt or call 202-588-6067 or e-mail plt@nthp.org.
