HARRIET TUBMAN SPECIAL RESOURCE STUDY
At the direction of Congress, the National Park Service is doing a special resource study of sites associated with Harriet Tubman. Tubman is known to have been active not only with the Underground Railroad, but during the Civil War as a nurse, a spy, and a scout. Furthermore, following the war, she devoted some four decades of her life to humanitarian activities from her home in Auburn, New York. For a fuller description of the NPS project, see the study Web site at www.HarrietTubmanStudy.org.
The NPS study team has identified places in many states and Canada where Tubman carried out her varied activities and would like to hear from Tubman researchers and enthusiasts who have information about particular sites that are known to be linked with Tubman as well as efforts to commemorate her. The team is seeking more information about all such sites. A posting of Tubman places known to the team will be made shortly on the Web site noted above. Please contact team leaders: Barbara Mackey, 617-223-5138, barbara_mackey@nps.gov or Barbara Tagger, 404-562-3108 x518, barbara_tagger@nps.gov
