American Society of Landscape Architects (ASLA) Awards Program features four categories of professional awards, including Design, Analysis and Planning, Research and Communications. CONSERVATION EASEMENTS ON FARM LANDS
The linked Federal Register notice describes a U.S. Department of Agriculture program to purchase conservation easements on farms and ranches that have prime, unique or other productive soil or that contain historical or archeological resources. The land must be subject to a pending offer to acquire a conservation easement. The purpose is to limit conversion of land to nonagricultural use. Up to $100 million is available this fiscal year. GREAT AMERICAN HOME AWARDS
Co-produced by the national Trust and the Old House Journal, these awards are given to homeowners for renovation projects completed in the last five years. homeowners, professionals, and third party observers (such as preservation organizations) may nominate projects. UNDERGROUND RAILROAD GRANTS
The Underground Railroad Educational and Cultural Program of the Department of Education provides grants to nonprofit educational organizations that are established to research, display, interpret, and collect artifacts relating to the history of the Underground Railroad. Some $2.235 million in grant funds are available to nonprofit educational organizations that are established to research, display, interpret, and collect artifacts relating to the history of the Underground Railroad. Typical awards are in the $100,000 to $750,000 range. The application deadline is June 2, 2003. MID-CAREER GRANT PROGRAM
The James Marston Fitch Charitable Foundation will award a $25,000 research grant to midcareer professionals who have an advanced or professional degree and at least ten years experience in historic preservation or related fields, including architecture, landscape architecture, architectural conservation, urban design, environmental planning, archaeology, architectural history, and the decorative arts. A smaller grant may also be awarded. The grants are intended to support projects of innovative original research or creative design that advance historic preservation. The grants are partially made possible through the Samuel Kress Foundation. Application requirements may be obtained from their Web site: Fitch Foundation.org.
