PRESERVATION 101: A GEORGIA ORIENTATION
Presented by the Historic Preservation Division (HPD) of the Georgia Department of Natural Resources and The Georgia Trust.
Who should attend? Anyone who is new to the historic preservation field in Georgia or is uncertain which services are provided by the state historic preservation office (HPD) and the state nonprofit preservation organization (The Georgia Trust).
When? Wednesday, October 23, 2002 9:00am 4:00pm

How do I register? Registration forms are being sent to our entire mailing list. A copy has been attached to this message. If you still need a copy, please send an email with "Preservation 101 registration form request" in the subject line to helen_talley-mcrae@dnr.state.ga.us or call 404-656-2840.
Please include a check made payable to the: Department of Natural Resources for $20 (per person) along with completed registration form(s). Please complete a separate registration form for each attendee. Send to: HISTORIC PRESERVATION DIVISION, 156 TRINITY AVE. SW, SUITE 101, ATLANTA, GA 30303. Please note, seating is very limited and forms received without payment will not be registered.
What does the registration fee cover? Program materials, continental breakfast and an afternoon break. Lunch and parking are on your own.

2002 CENTENNIAL FARM AWARD CEREMONY
The 2002 Georgia Centennial Farm Award ceremony will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Friday, October 4, 2002, at the opening day of the Georgia National Fair in Perry, Georgia. The Centennial Farm Program honors significant farms that have been continuously operating for over 100 years and deserve recognition for their historical importance. This year, two Centennial Farm Awards and 28 Centennial Family Farm Awards will be presented. Read more about this year's honorees at www.gashpo.org under What's New. To attend the ceremony, please contact Donna Reynolds of the Georgia Farm Bureau at 478-474-0679, ext. 5365. The cost of the luncheon is $15.
If you are interested in nominating a farm for recognition during the next application cycle, you must apply before the March 1, 2003 deadline. NATIONAL REGISTER NEWS
Kirkwood School, 138 Kirkwood Rd., Atlanta, DeKalb County was listed in the National Register on September 19, 2002.
The Georgia National Register Review Board welcomes four new members:
David Carmicheal, Atlanta, at large, is Director of the Georgia Department of Archives and History and currently serves on the Governor's Commission on Georgia History and Historical Tourism.
Clarissa Myrick-Harris, Atlanta, history, teaches history at Morris Brown College and is founding director of the Southern Black Communities Oral History Center.
Daves Rossell, Savannah, architectural history, teaches architectural history at the Savannah College of Art and Design and is editor of the Vernacular Georgia Monitor.
Susan Turner, Atlanta, architecture, works with Lord, Aeck and Sargent and is lead architect for several important restoration projects, including the State Capitol.

HPD STAFF NEWS
HPD welcomes Caroline Wright, who was recently selected for the position of Preservation Architect in the Technical Services Unit. Caroline is a graduate of the School of Architecture

from Tulane University and comes to HPD from Cane River Creole National Historic Park in Louisiana. Caroline has also worked on HABS summer teams in Louisiana and Pennsylvania.
Caroline will be responsible for architectural review related to HPD programs in North Georgia; Coosa Valley; Chattahoochee Flint; McIntosh Trail; Middle Georgia; Middle Flint; Lower Chattahoochee; Southwest Georgia; and South Georgia RDC areas. Bill Hover will continue review in the Georgia Mountains; Northeast Georgia; Central Savannah River Area; Heart of Georgia-Altamaha; Coastal Georgia; and Southeast Georgia RDC areas. Caroline and Bill will both review projects in the Atlanta Region.
Over the next few months Caroline will travel throughout the state, meeting members of the preservation community and learning more about Georgia's varied resources. With both architectural review positions now filled, HPD looks forward to this opportunity to broaden its service to constituents.
