NOMINATIONS SOUGHT FOR AUDC'S URBAN DESIGN AWARDS OF EXCELLENCE
Nominations are being accepted for the Atlanta Urban Design Commission's (AUDC) annual design awards ceremony, May 16. The awards honor projects, programs, individuals and organizations that have significantly contributed toward the enhancement of Atlanta's urban environment and the preservation of its physical heritage. LOG STRUCTURE STABILIZATION AND PRESERVATION TECHNIQUES COURSES
The Virginia City Historic Preservation Team will hold two log structure stabilization and preservation techniques courses in Virginia and Nevada Cities, Montana. These courses are part of a series for certification in historic preservation maintenance. The Round Log course will be from April 29 to May 3, 2002. The Hewn Log course will be from May 6 to May 10, 2002. Instructors for these courses include The Virginia City Historic Preservation Team and Bernie Weisgerber, Historic Preservation Specialist for the National Park Service. The cost of each course will be $350, with two scholarship positions in each class open for students. The deadline for the applications is March 29, 2002 for both courses. 2002 SAVE AMERICA'S TREASURES GRANTS
Applications are invited for Federal Save America's Treasures Grants to preserve our cultural heritage, as authorized by the FY 2002 Department of the Interior Appropriations Act. The grants are administered by the National Park Service in partnership with the National Endowment for the Arts. Grants require a dollar-for-dollar non-Federal match. The minimum grant request for collections projects is $50,000 Federal share; the minimum grant request for historic property projects is $250,000 Federal share. The maximum grant request for all projects is $1 million Federal share. In 2001, the average award was $249,000. NTHP SUMMER INTERNSHIPS
The National Trust for Historic Preservation (NTHP) has internships available for an eight-week summer program, June 3-July 26, 2002 in Washington, DC. Projects vary. Former intern responsibilities have included research and writing on historical topics; developing architectural and collections databases; marketing our annual conference and promoting our cultural diversity program; and researching community revitalization projects. Projects for 2002 will be based on needs developed during the year. Interns attend weekly educational seminars and field trips. Applicants must be enrolled in any undergraduate or graduate level degree program(completion of sophomore year is required) and have strong writing, research, and computer skills. The application deadline is April 12, 2002. PRESERVATION LEADERSHIP TRAINING
The National Trust for Historic Preservation is offering its Preservation Leadership Training course June 22-29 in Marshall, California. The intensive one-week course is for board members and staff of state and local preservation organizations. It addresses leadership and organizational development techniques and provides information on current preservation practices, issues, and action strategies. The application deadline is April 19.
