NATIONAL REGISTER NEWS
The Gartrell Family House, 854 Boyd Rd., Tignall vicinity, Wilkes County, was listed in the National Register on June 14, 2002.
The National Register of Historic Places is pleased to announce that the General Services Administration's (GSA) Center for Historic Buildings, Office of the Chief Architect is partnering with the National Park Service (NPS) to digitize records of listed GSA properties to make them accessible online through the National Register Information System database. This is the first inter-agency partnership on this project and the latest incremental step by the National Register in digitizing the documentation on nearly 75,000 nominations. Multiple property nomination contexts have been digitized and are now available at www.nr.nps.gov. Work on the NPS's own listed properties is currently underway. EXECUTIVE DIRECTOR POSITION AVAILABLE AT ASHANTILLY CENTER
The Ashantilly Center's director will oversee the restoration of the House, Gardens and Print Shop while performing major fundraising for the site through grants, events, and membership drives. The director will be the liaison to the community and develop a program suitable for schools, potential donors and civic groups. The director will oversee the training of volunteers so that the site can be open to the public on a regular basis. Salary Range: $26,000 to $30,000 with benefits. Requirements: B.A. in Liberal Arts preferably in related field (History, Museum Studies, Historic Preservation) Some experience in historic preservation a plus. TRANSPORTATION ENHANCEMENTS: CALL FOR NOMINATIONS
The National Transportation Enhancements Clearinghouse (NTEC) is accepting submissions for their latest publication on successful Transportation Enhancement (TE) projects. Projects should include economic and community impacts, funding levels and funding mechanisms used, and the relation to surface transportation by (TE) category. Project nominations will be accepted from DOT's, MPO/RPA's and local supporters. Nominations must be received by Friday, June 28, 2002. CALL FOR ECONOMIC BENEFIT STUDIES
The National Trust, the University of Maryland, and the Brookings Institute have teamed up in an effort to identify and bring together the many studies quantifying the economic and social benefits of historic preservation. Their efforts will assist preservationists to understand what ground has already been covered and what questions still need to be answered.
