NTHP'S PRESERVATION SERVICE'S FUND
The next deadline for the Preservation Services Fund (PSF) available through the National Trust for Historic Preservation (NTHP) is October 1, 2002. PSF funds are generally considered "seed money" and may be used for a variety of preservation-related activities. Grants are small, ranging from $500 to $1200, and must be Matched dollar-for-dollar. Applicants are encouraged to develop proposals carefully and to complete the application form with the assistance and guidance of the National Trust regional office. For more information, please contact the Southern Office of the NTHP at 843-722-8552.

NTHP SEEKS LOCAL INITIATIVE AND COLLABORATIVE PROJECT PROPOSALS
The National Trust for Historic Preservation (NTHP) is accepting applications for the 2002-03 Local Initiative and Collaborative Pilots Technical Assistance Grants. The purpose of these programs is to build organization capacity for nonprofit preservation groups and to strengthen collaborations between national, state, and local partners related to strategic preservation outcomes. The Local Initiative supports the hiring of the first full-time staff for local nonprofit preservation organizations. The Collaborative Pilot looks for creative partnership projects that advance the preservation mission and build the preservation movement at the local level. Initial funding is for a grant of up to $2,500 for strategic development. Organizations receiving one of these grants will be invited to apply for a Challenge Grant of up to $35,000. The application deadline is October 31, 2002. For more information contact Lisa Burcham at lisa_burcham@nthp.org or Kimberly_Fairall at kinberly_fairall@nthp.org.

NTHP'S DRUGSTORE INITIATIVE
For several years, the Drugstore Initiative at the National Trust for Historic Preservation

(NTHP) has aimed to protect the corner of "Main and Main" street in communities throughout the country. The Trust is putting the finishing touches on twenty success stories from this initiative that will soon be available at www.nationaltrust.org/issues/chain_drugstores.html. These accounts celebrate the efforts of preservationists, elected officials and citizens who worked in collaboration with the NTHP to prevent chain drugstores from demolishing historic landmarks in their communities. Completing these success stories does not signal the end of the project. The NTHP would like to learn more about local and statewide efforts that have not come to their attention. If you have a story or contact information, please contact Cristina Prochilo at cristina_prochilo@nthp.org.

SIERRA NEAL LEAVES NTHP'S SOUTHERN OFFICE
After spending more than nine years in the Southern Office, Sierra Neal is moving on to a new preservation challenge working with the South Carolina Department of Parks, Recreation and Tourism as part of the South Carolina National Heritage Corridor. Her responsibilities will include working with individuals, organizations and governments in developing sites and attractions along the corridor.
From her work in organizing and shepherding the Southeast Regional African American Preservation Alliance and the Georgia African American Historic Preservation Network (GAAHPN) to her valuable contributions of improving and managing the Emerging Preservation Leaders Scholarship program, Sierra has been a sure foundation in their office and a harbor light for many people in the Southern region and around the country. To say that Sierra will be missed is an understatement. Her last official day with the National Trust is July 31.
