STATE GOVERNMENT BUDGET REDUCTIONS
As has been widely reported in the media, Governor Barnes asked all state agencies to identify 2.5% budget reductions for the current state fiscal year (SFY) 2002. The amounts approved for HPD's budget are: $50,000 for the design consultant contract with Fernbank Museum for HPD's proposed office space and $5,000 in miscellaneous per diem expenses. These reductions are effective December 1. For the SFY 2003 budget, beginning July 1, 2002, a 5% budget reduction was called for. The Governor's proposals will not be released until after January, but the following amounts were identified by the Department of Natural Resources for HPD's share: $5,000 in miscellaneous per diem expenses; $42,000 for the CLG coordination contract with the University of Georgia; and $99,425 from the RDC preservation planner program. In addition, funding for the ongoing restoration of Rhodes Hall during SFY 2002 and 2003 has been eliminated. Georgians for Preservation Action (GAPA) is leading a statewide effort to convey the impacts of HPD's proposed cuts to economic development, community planning and local preservation activities throughout Georgia. For further information, contact GAPA staff contact Glen Bennett at The Georgia Trust, 404-881-9980 or gbennett@georgiatrust.org.

GEORGIA CENTENNIAL FARM APPLICATIONS NOW AVAILABLE
Farms hold a central role in the heritage of our state having formed the economic, cultural and family foundation for generations of Georgians.
