2001 General Assembly Report
HB 118 (State Income Tax Credit for Historic Rehabilitation) HB 118 remains under consideration in the Senate Finance and Public Utilities Committee. It passed the full House 162 to 0 on March 2.
HB 698 (Archaeology Protection) The Senate Natural Resources Committee has scheduled a hearing for Monday, March 12, at 3:30 p.m. to hear comments on HB 698. The legislation passed the full House on March 6.
SFY 2002 Budget The House version of the DNR budget includes funding for the following historic preservation activities: level funding for HPD staff and operations, $500,000 for Georgia Heritage 2000 grants, $250,000 for Rhodes Hall, $238,000 for RDC planners, $50,000 for historic graves of Georgia governors. The Senate is considering their version at this time.
Monday, March 12 is day 35 of the 40-day session.

On January 22, Lieutenant Governor Mark Taylor named 12 new cities as Better Hometown Communities: Alamo-Glenwood, Alma, Ashburn, Cuthbert, Donalsonville, Hahira, Hazelhurst, Jefferson, Millen, Reynolds, Royston, and West Point. 24th Annual Urban Design Awards of Excellence Competition
"To encourage a sympathetic balance between the old and the new, the Atlanta Urban Design Commission annually honors those projects, programs, individuals and organizations, that have significantly contributed to the enhancement of Atlanta's urban environment or the preservation of our physical heritage." Women's History Reports
The President's Commission on the Celebration of Women in American History has issued three publications: "Women's History is Everywhere: 10 Ideas for Celebrating In Communities," "Honoring Our Past," (a year 2000 report and recommendations on how best to acknowledge and celebrate the roles and accomplishments of women in American history) and a similar report issued in March 1999 entitled "Celebrating Women's History."
