2001 General Assembly Report
The 2001 session concluded on Wednesday, March 21. We will post a final summary of preservation and archaeology related issues next week.

Governor's Discretionary Fund Awards
Morris Brown College received $15,000 to provide funding for the Southern Black Communities Oral History Center. The center will record and preserve firsthand accounts of the lives and experiences of individuals who have participated in the development of African American communities in the Southeastern region of the United States.
A grant of $25,000 went to assist in funding the "Revival of the Spirit" campaign to renovate historic buildings on the campus of Spelman College.
******************************************************************************************* 2001 Georgia Historic House and Garden Pilgrimage
The tour, on Saturday, May 12, will include nine unique properties in Columbus including historic Linwood Cemetery and the Olmsted Gardens at the Columbus Museum. This year's featured speakers are HPD's own Kenneth H. Thomas Jr., "Columbus in 1828: A Planned City on the Georgia Frontier" and Lucy Lawliss

ASLA, Historic Landscape Architect, National Park Service, "Olmstead in Columbus." Proceeds will support the restoration and preservation of Georgia's public, non-profit historic landscapes and gardens.

Emerging Preservation Leaders Scholarship Program
The National Trust encourages culturally diverse community activists and college students to apply for scholarships to the National Preservation Conference 2001, which will be held in Providence, R.I., Oct. 16-21. The National Trust is seeking applicants whose attendance at the conference will benefit their communities, whose commitment to historic preservation will be strengthened by their participation, and who will contribute valuable perspectives to conference dialogue. Awards will help pay registration, transportation and accommodation costs. The scholarship deadline is June 15, 2001.
