NATIONAL TRUST ANNOUNCES NEW PROGRAM
The National Trust announces a Request For Proposals for the new Locals Initiative and Collaborative Pilots Programs. The purpose of these programs is twofold: to build organizational capacity for nonprofit preservation groups and strengthen collaborations between national, state, and local partners related to strategic preservation outcomes. The Local Initiative supports the hiring of the first full-time staff for local nonprofit preservation organizations. The Collaborative Pilot looks for creative partnership projects that advance the preservation mission and build the preservation movement at the local level.

Initial funding includes a technical assistance grant of up to $2,500 for strategic development. Organizations accepted for this phase of the program will be invited to apply for a Challenge Grant of up to $35,000. These programs are open to 501(c)(3) nonprofit preservation organizations. The Application deadline is October 31, 2001.
Program guidelines and applications are available at www.forum.nthp.org in the Newsroom/ forum update section. If you have any questions, contact Statewide & Local Partnerships Director Lisa Burcham (lisa_burcham@nthp.org) or Program Assistant Kimberly Fairall (kimberly_fairall@nthp.org).

ART OF THE ARCHITECT
June 23 - September 2, 2001 - The High Museum of Art will be the sole venue for this installation of 18 original drawings and paintings by modern and contemporary Italian architects. Featuring noted Italian architects as Massimo Scolari, Arduino Cantora, Franco Purini, Franz Prati, and the late Aldo Rossi, the exhibition is intended to expose the raw, artful, expression of an architect when his or her ideas are first generated. Rather than viewing plans for specific buildings, visitors will see how architects often begin the design process with purely creative, even whimsical drawings as well as the important role that art plays in the practice of architecture. www.artofarchitect.com
