CWC HERITAGE TRAILS PROJECT IMPLEMENTATION
The Georgia Civil War Commission (CWC) will soon begin implementation of the Georgia Civil War Heritage Trails demonstration project using the $200,000 received from the State Legislature. The project will include Web site design, an economic impact study, a marketing study, and trail signage. INTERNET GRANTS AVAILABLE TO NONPROFITS
Verizon Foundation is offering $240 eGrants to nonprofit organizations with annual budgets under $500,000, which currently lack Internet access, to enable them to gain dialup or high-speed Internet access, from the ISP (Internet Service Provider) of their choice. TEACHING AMERICAN HISTORY PROGRAM GRANTS ORIENTATION
SERVE is an education organization with the mission to promote and support the continuous improvement of educational opportunities for all learners in the Southeast. They are offering an orientation workshop for prospective grantees of the U.S. Department of Education's Teaching American History Program in Atlanta, Georgia, on June 19 from 1 4 pm at the Atlanta Airport Marriott.
The recently announced Teaching American History Program will award an estimated 75-125 grants averaging $500,000 each to local education agencies in partnership with

institutions of higher education, state education agencies, history or humanities nonprofit organizations, libraries, and museums. The purpose of these three-year grants is to improve teachers' knowledge, understanding, and appreciation of American history. Grant awards will assist local education agencies, in partnership with institutions that have extensive content expertise, to design, implement, and demonstrate effective, research-based professional development programs. The proposal deadline is July 23, 2001.
