2001 General Assembly Report
HB 118 (State Income Tax Credit for Historic Rehabilitation) HB 118 awaits consideration by the full House, and then it will pass on to the Senate. HB 118 creates a 30% income tax credit for residential properties and 25% credit for income-producing properties.
HB 698 (Archaeological Sites Protection) HB 698 was recommended for approval this week by the House Game, Fish, and Parks Committee. It too is awaiting consideration by the full House and Senate. It strengthens state laws for the protection of archaeological sites, especially underwater sites and those on private property.
SFY 2001 Amended (Supplemental) Budget Funding for the following preservation projects was included in the SFY 2001 amended budget that was approved this week: Resaca battlefield - $750,000; Hardman Farm - $2 million; TRR Cobb House - $100,000; Civil War Commission trails - $200,000; Georgia Cities Foundation grants - $1.5 million; and Old Governor's Mansion - $5 million.
SFY 2002 Budget Consideration of the SFY 2002 budget, effective July 1, willl be a major discussion item in the last few weeks of the legislative session. New items of particular concern to preservation include: an increase up to $500,000 for Georgia Heritage 2000 grants, a Georgia governor's historic graves project at $50,000 and funding to support HPD's stewardship program for state-owned

historic properties. These are in addition to continuation level funding for HPD's base budget that includes RDC preservation planners at $238,000 and Rhodes Hall at $250,000.

Endangered Georgia Battlefields
The Civil War Preservation Trust listed two battlefield sites in Georgia on its list of America's Most Endangered Battlefields. Allatoona, Bartow County, made the top ten list while Lovejoy's Station was in the top twenty-five list. For more information www.civilwar.org/topten/report.htm
