LAST CHANCE LANDSCAPES
The Last Chance Landscapes program, which began in 1999, grew out of Scenic America's Most Important Scenic Byways series. From 1993 through 1996, Scenic America named a total of 70 roads as either endangered or outstanding scenic byways. This program helped generate public interest in and support for the National Scenic Byways Program, now a thriving $148 million program which includes 53 roads from around the nation. Local nominating groups whose landscapes were selected in 1999 and 2000 benefited from greatly increased attention to their campaigns by local, regional, and national press.
June 1, 2001 is the deadline for this year's nominations. Scenic America will announce the Last Chance Landscapes in November 2001. Please visit Scenic America's Web site for nomination applications and further information. www.scenic.org/last_chance_landscapes.htm
