ONEGEORGIA AUTHORITY`S EQUITY FUND PROGRAM
The Authority will hold a workshop for the second round of Equity Fund competition on April 10 from 10:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. at the Heart of Georgia Technical College in Dublin. This is a free workshop.
The purpose of the Equity Fund is to provide a program of financial assistance that includes grants, loans and any other forms of assistance authorized by (O.C.G.A.5034-1 et seq.) to finance activities that will assist applicants in promoting the health, welfare, safety, and economic security of the citizens of the state through the development and retention of employment opportunities in areas of greater need as defined by the Georgia Business Expansion and Support Act of 1994, as amended (O.C.G.A.48-7-40).
Preservation-Related First Round Awards:
The City of Bainbridge received $80,000 to reconstruct the Bon Air Hotel's front portico and balconies. The City will own the faade. The requested $80,000 in Equity funds is the total project cost.
The Hawkinsville Downtown Development Authority proposes to acquire the vacant and dilapidated R. J. Taylor Memorial Hospital. Once acquired, the exterior of the building would be stabilized and part of it rehabilitated to accommodate the needs of the U.S. Post Office. The remaining space would be rehabilitated over time for other

potential occupants. Total project cost is $1,327,404, $1,164,904 of which would be for rehabilitation costs and $162,500 for acquisition of the property by the DA. The $500,000 in Equity funds would be used as part of rehabilitation costs. The remaining $664,904 in rehabilitation expenses would be provided from unspecified sources ($174,904 in local funds, $240,000 in state funds and $250,000 in federal funds). This project would result in the elimination of a blighting influence on downtown while rehabilitating a historic structure, maintaining the U.S. Post Office downtown and making space available for possible re-use by future commercial and residential tenants.
