HPD Online
The addition of HPD's Weekly Updates is the first of many improvements to our website planned for the next year. HPD will be redesigning its website to make it easier to find information, including updated program descriptions, publications, and forms. A calendar of historic preservation related events will be online in 2001 at www.gashpo.org/calendar. These listings will be updated weekly.
HPD is reducing the number of printed publications to three or four per year. These publications will include: the annual report, fall; a preservation update, spring; and one or two special publications featuring HPD programs and other preservation-related information. These publications will be sent to everyone on our mailing list. Members of the Georgia African American Historic Preservation Network (GAAHPN) will also receive Reflections, GAAHPN's quarterly newsletter.

Database Rehabilitation HPD is converting its old FYI mailing list to HPD Contacts, a
comprehensive contact and information database using Access software. Formerly, we had only basic information, such as name, organization, address, and phone number. The HPD Contacts database will allow us to add more information, including, e-mail addresses, websites, and RDC, Congressional, and state legislative districts. HPD will also now be able to share database information with our partners. The Database Rehabilitation form is now being sent to everyone on our current mailing list so that we can update, and add new information to, our records. If you are not on our mailing list, please call 404/656-2840 to request an update form.

Annual State Historic Preservation Conference Many thanks to those who responded to the evaluation of the annual state
conference, sponsored by The Georgia Trust and HPD. Based on those results and a critical staff re-evaluation, we are now ready to initiate planning for the next conference. We expect it to be held the 3rd or 4th week of February 2002. Proposals will be solicited from local organizations to serve as a local host/sponsor and to have a greater role in conference planning. As a supplement to the annual conference, in late September 2001, we also expect to expand HPD's popular orientation for new preservationists in Georgia. This will include general information about preservation programs and services provided by other statewide preservation groups. Please contact Helen-Talley-McRae at 404/6515268, or e-mail at helen_talley-mcrae@mail.dnr.state.ga.us, for more information, or if you have any questions or comments.

2001 Georgia General Assembly Georgia's state legislature begins their 2001 session on January 8.
Legislation, discussion and appropriations items on the preservation agenda will include: state tax credit for rehabilitation of private residences and incomeproducing properties, county courthouses/city halls initiative, Georgia Heritage 2000 grants, Civil War Commission trails project, and funding for RDC regional planners, Rhodes Hall, Hardman Farm, historic schools, Georgia Cities Foundation's downtown revitalization loans, and GAAHPN's "Chitlin' Circuit" project. The Governor's budget proposal for HPD/DNR will be released early in the legislative session. Georgians for Preservation Action (GAPA) will be monitoring these issues throughout the session. Planning for the annual legislative reception is underway. Contact Greta Covington, GAPA's staff liaison, at The Georgia Trust at 404/881-9980 or at gcovington@georgiatrust.org for more information.
