Weekly Report July 1-7, 2012
This report is a broad sampling of events that have taken place in the past week, but does not include all actions taken by the Law Enforcement Section.
Region I- Calhoun (Northwest)
BARTOW COUNTY On July 1st, Cpl. Lee Burns and Cpl. Byron Young were called to assist Cpl. Chip Cox and RFC Barton Hendrix with a BUI at the mouth of Illinois Creek on Allatoona Lake. After assisting with the arrest, Cpl. Burns stopped a vessel coming out of Illinois Creek for no registration. After stopping the vessel, the rangers immediately noticed that the operator appeared intoxicated. Cpl. Burns administered field sobriety and the operator was charged for operating a vessel under the influence and operating a vessel without registration.
On July 6th, Cpl. Byron Young and RFC Barton Hendrix were patrolling Allatoona Lake near Red Top Mountain State Park. Just before midnight, the officers encountered a Ranger boat traveling at top speed without navigational lights. The officers did not see the boat until it crossed their bow approximately fifty to sixty feet away. Cpl. Young immediately stopped the vessel and recognized the operator to be one he stopped a few weeks earlier for the same violation. On both accounts, the operator stated he is having problems with a breaker within the boat's electrical system. On the first stop, the operator was issued verbal guidance. On this night, the operator was charged for operating a vessel without lights during the hours of darkness. Cpl. Young and RFC Hendrix also charged one other boater for operating a vessel without lights.
On July 6th, Cpl. Lee Burns and Ranger Zack Hardy patrolled Allatoona Lake. At approximately 2145 hours, the rangers noticed what appeared to be a vessel near one of the banks. Upon approaching the vessel, the operator turned on the stern light. The vessel was trolling while bass fishing without navigational lights. A citation was issued for operating vessel without lights in hours of darkness. The rangers also discussed safety concerns with the operator how important it is to have navigational lights on at all times while on the water between sunset and sunrise.
On July 7th, Cpl. Chip Cox and Cpl. Bryon Young were issuing a citation for towing a skier after hours near Bethany Bridge on Allatoona Lake. As they were issuing the citation, another boat passed their location without any navigational lights. The rangers stopped the boat and noticed a strong odor of alcohol. After checking the vessel for the required safety items, Cpl. Chip Cox administered field sobriety exercises on the operator and found him to be intoxicated. The operator was charged for operating a vessel under the influence and child endangerment, as there was a four year old passenger on board.
CARROLL COUNTY On July 4th, Cpl. Eric Brown responded to a boat explosion with other emergency responders. The incident occurred at Legion Lake north of Villa Rica. The initial report was that a boat shooting fireworks had exploded with multipe victims in the water and bystanders swimming out into the lake to attempt to render aid. Upon arrival, it was determined that two men were aboard a pontoon boat with only a wood decking. It was determined that the men were igniting fireworks when a spark ignited a box of mortar rounds thus causing an explosion. One man was taken by ambulance to Grady Hospital
in Atlanta with burns to his arms and the other refused treatment with several bruises to his thigh and pelvic area where mortar rounds struck him. No charges have been filed at this time. CHATTOOGA COUNTY On July 6th, RFC Roger McConkey presented a boating safety program in Chattooga County. Local county officials held a Safety Day at the Chattooga County Library where RFC McConkey talked with the local kids about the importance of life jackets and boating safety issues.
CHEROKEE COUNTY On July 1st, RFC Brooks Varnell and RFC Barton Hendrix were patrolling Lake Allatoona near Victoria Landing. The rangers stopped a boat without a stern light. During the stop a large boat ran between the ranger's boat and the stopped boat. The operator of the first boat was arrested for BUI and transported to the Cherokee County Jail. While RFC Hendrix was in route to the Jail, RFC Varnell went to Little River and found the boat that almost hit them during the first BUI arrest. RFC Varnell stopped the boat in question and found the operator to be drinking. RFC Varnell administered field sobriety and found the operator to be intoxicated. This operator was also arrested for operating a vessel under the influence. After RFC Hendrix returned from the jail, RFC Varnell went to the Cherokee County Jail with his suspect and RFC Hendrix continued to patrol the area. When RFC Varnell returned from the jail, RFC Hendrix had stopped another boat for operating without a stern light. After interviewing the operator he was also arrested for operating a vessel under the influence.
On July 3rd, Lt. Sam O'Neal assisted RFC Bart Hendrix with patrols on Lake Allatoona. The rangers issued several citations for operating a vessel with lights, operating a vessel with improper lights, and allowing children under ten to ride a moving vessel without wearing a PFD. One arrest was made for operating a vessel under the influence in the area of Harbor Town Marina. The operator had two children under age fourteen onboard and was also charged with child endangerment.
FANNIN COUNTY On June 30th, Sgt. John VanLandingham, Cpl. James Keener, RFC Joe Hill, and RFC Cody Jones patrolled Blue Ridge Lake. The officers issued 19 citations and 15 warnings. The violations included insufficient PFD's, improper lights, PWC at night, registration, towing skier without mirror/observer, child riding without PFD, overloaded vessel, fire extinguisher, and boating under the influence.
On June 30th, Sgt. John VanLandingham and RFC Cody Jones stopped a vessel for having improper lights. When the officers shined a light to identify the operator, that subject immediately swapped with another operator. The officers conducted field sobriety exercises in which the subject failed. During the exercises the subject stated that he might have had too much to drink. The subject was arrested and he refused chemical testing.
On July 1st, Cpl. James Keener and RFC Cody Jones patrolled Lake Blue Ridge. The officers issued 6 citations and 6 warnings for violations including registration, PFD's, towing skier without mirror/observer, and failure to obey regulatory markers. On July 4th, RFC Cody Jones and RFC Joe Hill patrolled Lake Blue Ridge. The officers issued 11 citations and 5 warnings for boating and fishing violations including operating without registration, child under 10 riding without PFD, operating within 100 feet of person in the water, operating a PWC after hours and fishing without a license. GILMER COUNTY On July 4th, Sgt. John VanLandingham cited two teenagers for underage possession of alcohol on the Cartecay River. The teens were released to sober adults. On July 5th, Sgt. Brian Keener and Cpl. Casey Jones responded to a call that a storm had hit the marina at Carter's Lake and people were trapped inside the boat docks. Upon arrival two people were found on the docks uninjured. They had become trapped when the boat dock was blown against the shoreline. Several boats were damaged. Damage ranged from being blown against the dock to being turned upside down. One vessel sank.
On July 6th, Sgt John VanLandingham and RFC Joe Hill patrolled the Cartecay River due to numerous complaints of littering, public indecency, illegal drugs, and underage possession of alcohol. While on foot patrol RFC Hill observed a male suspect, floating down the river, drinking a beer and then discard a Gatorade bottle in the water. RFC Hill called him to the bank to issue a citation for littering. RFC Hill and Sgt VanLandingham
could smell a strong odor of alcohol on the suspect's breath. The male suspect became argumentative and verbally combative not accepting the citation. RFC Hill told the suspect to listen while the citation was explained to him and he became louder and started backing away from the officer. RFC Hill then arrested the suspect for public drunkenness and littering.
On July 7th, DNR Rangers conducted a special detail on the Cartecay River in reference to littering, public indecency, illegal drugs, and underage possession of alcohol complaints. Throughout the day, the officers checked numerous kayaks and canoes for lifejackets, and issued two citations for littering and operating a vessel without a PFD.
GORDON COUNTY On July 7th, Cpl. Shawn Elmore and Sgt. Jeff Galloway patrolled the Conasauga River and the Coosawattee River from Hwy 225 to the Carters Re-regulation Lake. Cpl. Elmore and Sgt. Galloway issued several citations for operating a vessel without personal flotation devices and several warnings for other boating violations as well as sport trotline violations.
MURRAY COUNTY On June 29th, Sgt. John VanLandingham, Cpl. Casey Jones and RFC Joe Hill issued citations to six teenagers between the ages of 14 and 19 for under age consumption of alcohol and possession of marijuana less than one ounce. The teenagers were all released to their parents. The illegal activity was discovered while checking fishermen along the Conasauga River.
On June 30th, Cpl. Casey Jones charged a Murray County man for littering and illegal consumption of alcohol on a WMA. Cpl. Jones stopped a green Chevy SUV after observing the passenger throw an item out of the window before driving out of a parking lot located on the WMA.
Region II- Gainesville (Northeast)
DAWSON COUNTY On July 6th, Sgt. Lee Brown and RFC Mitchell Crump were patrolling Lake Lanier and arrested one subject for BUI.
FORSYTH COUNTY On July 6th, Sgt. Lee Brown and RFC Mitchell Crump were patrolling Lake Lanier for boating and fishing violations. The rangers observed a PWC violate the 100 foot law. The rangers gave verbal guidance and a written warning for violation of the 100 foot law and operating a vessel without registration.
On July 7th, Sgt. Lee Brown and RFC Mitchell Crump were in Bald Ridge Creek on Lake Lanier when they observed a boat without a stern light. The operator was issued a written warning for operating with improper lights and operating a vessel with insufficient PFD's.
GWINNETT COUNTY On July 1st, Sgt. Lee Brown and Cpl. Eric Sanders were patrolling the Chattahoochee River by boat. The rangers checked 300+ boats on this day. During the days patrol violations of operating a vessel without PFD's, operating a vessel with insufficient PFD's, violation of the 100 foot law, allowing a child under 10 ride in a moving vessel, fishing with illegal bait and possession of over the limit of trout were detected. Written warnings and citations were issued for these infractions.
On July 1st, Sgt. Lee Brown and Cpl. Eric Sanders answered two complaints of holding a deer without a permit. The rangers went to two different houses in the Duluth area. One house had two deer and the other had three. The subjects worked at a vet's office and were taking care of the deer after hours at home. Cpl. Sanders explained the law to the subjects and how for them to comply with the law.
On July 5th, Cpl. Eric Sanders answered a complaint of a trapper not checking his traps within 24 hours. Cpl. Sanders met with the Gwinnett P.D. officer who observed the violation. Cpl. Sanders made contact with the trapper and issued him a citation for failure to check traps within a 24 hour period.
On July 7th, Sgt. Lee Brown was patrolling the Lanier Park area of Lake Lanier when they observed a subject towing a tuber on a PWC without an observer. The operator was issued a written warning for the infraction.
HALL COUNTY On July 1st, Sgt. Mike Burgamy and RFC Mitchell Crump were patrolling Lake Lanier and arrested a subject for BUI.
On July 2nd, RFC Mitchell Crump along with a Gwinnett P.D. officer was patrolling Lake Lanier. During their patrols they issued citations and warnings for allowing a child under 10 to ride in a moving vessel without wearing a PFD, operating a vessel without registration, operating a vessel without lights and operating a vessel without PFD's.
On July 4th, Cpl. Eric Sanders was patrolling Lake Lanier for the holiday. During his patrol on this day he arrested one subject for BUI and issued warnings and citations for subjects operating a vessel being overloaded, failure to obey regulatory marker, allowing a child under 10 to ride in a moving vessel without wearing a PFD and towing a skier after sunset.
On July 7th, Sgt. Lee Brown and RFC Mitchell Crump were patrolling Lake Lanier and issued citations and warnings for violation of the 100 foot law and towing a skier without an observer on a PWC.
RABUN COUNTY On July 6th, Corporal Derek Dillard and Rabun County Sheriff's Officer Kevin Woodard responded to a tubing incident on Lake Burton in the area of Moccasin Creek. A thirteen
year old girl injured her lower back and was transported to Northeast Georgia Medical Center where she was treated and released.
UNION COUNTY On June 30th, RFC Kevin Dyer and RFC Anne Alexander were on routine night patrol on Lake Nottely when they observed a pontoon boat with no navigation lights on. Upon approach to the vessel the two officers notice beer cans floating in the wake of the boat. Once stopped, the officers detected an odor of an intoxicating beverage emitting from the operator. Field sobriety exercises were conducted and the operator was placed under arrest and charged with boating under the influence. There were also several occupants that were under the age of 21 that was charged with minors in possession through consumption. One of the occupants that were arrested was a pregnant female.
FORSYTH COUNTY On July 6th, Cpl. Jason Roberson arrested one subject for operating a vessel under the influence in Bald Ridge creek on Lake Lanier.
HALL COUNTY On July 7th, Cpl. Jason Roberson arrested one subject for operating a vessel under the influence in Shoal Creek on Lake Lanier.
On July 8th, Cpl. Jason Roberson arrested two subjects for operating a vessel under the influence in Shoal Creek on Lake Lanier. Cpl. Roberson also investigated two minor boat incidents.
On July 7th, and observed a vessel without a stern light on. Officer Stephens later evaluated the operator and arrested the individual for operating a vessel under the influence of alcohol and operating a vessel at night with improper lights.
On July 6th, RFC Eric Isom and RFC Mark Stephens were patrolling Big Creek on Lake Lanier. Officer Stephens and Officer Isom observed a blue Jet Ski hit two young children that was being pulled behind a pontoon boat. Both Officers assisted in the injured individuals in getting medical attention. On July 7th, RFC Mark Stephens responded to a boating incident were a boat was swamped by another boat in flat creek located on Lake Sidney Lanier. No individuals were hurt in the incident.
On July 8th, RFC Mark Stephens and SGT Mike Burgamy responded to a boating Incident were a young lady had a sever laceration on her big toe caused by a vessel hitting wakes. The lady was treated for her injuries.
FRANKLIN COUNTY On July 4th, Cpl. Bill Bunch and Sgt. Stan Elrod patrolled Lake Hartwell. Seven citations and warnings were written for operating without sufficient PFD's, allowing underage children to ride in moving vessel without wearing a PFD, and operating overloaded vessel.
On July 5th, Sgt. Stan Elrod noticed a vehicle on I-85 weaving on the roadway. Sgt. Elrod stopped the vehicle and determined the driver to be under the influence. The driver was arrested for failure to maintain lane and Driving under the influence.
On July 7th, Cpl. Bill Bunch and Cpl. Craig Fulghum patrolled Lake Hartwell. They issued citations and warnings for violations of the 100 foot law and allowing underage children to ride in moving vessels without wearing a PFD.
On July 7th, Sgt. Stan Elrod, Cpl. Bill Bunch and Cpl. Craig Fulghum assisted the Georgia State Patrol, Probation, and the Stephens County Sheriff's office with a road check in an area where a shooting and stabbing took place. The concentrated patrol and road check resulted in several drug arrests, DUI's, and the apprehension of several suspects with warrants.
MADISON COUNTY On July 9th, RFC Shane Sartor issued two citations for fishing without a license on the Broad River.
Region III- Thomson (East Central)
LAKE OCONEE On July 7th, Cpl. Derrell Worth and Sgt. John Harwell issued several citations for light violations and insufficient PFDs on vessels.
On July 4th, Capt. Thomas Barnard, Cpl. David Allen, Sgt. Matt Garthright, and WT Kevin VonSeggern worked Lake Oconee. They responded to complaints pertaining to 100' violations, assisted boaters whose batteries went dead, and towed in broken down vessels.
On July 5th, Cpl. David Allen responded to a boating incident on Lake Oconee in Richland Creek. A vessel hit a dock and seawall and came to rest approximately 16' on the shoreline. The incident was caused by a snake in the vessel and operator inattention.
On July 6th, RFC Richard Tanner responded to a boating incident on Lake Oconee. A skier landed wrong and broke his leg. RFC Tanner spoke with the victim and completed a boating incident form.
On July 8th, Cpl. Derrell Worth and RFC Freddie Hays stopped a vessel which was overloaded. A citation was given for insufficient PFDs and warnings for no fire extinguisher and overloaded vessel.
On July 7th, RFC Ricky Boles received a complaint of four subjects walking down the bank of Lake Oconee casting netting. The complaint came in around midnight. RFC Boles and Cpl. Derrell Worth responded to the area of the complaint. Four subjects were
arrested and cited for possession of illegally taken wildlife and taking game fish by illegal methods. Over a thousand fish of varied species was confiscated along with 3 cast nets.
LINCOLN COUNTY On July 7th, Cpl. Ryan Swain and RFC Phillip Nelson arrested one subject for operating a vessel while under the influence. The subject was stopped for having an overloaded vessel.
COLUMBIA COUNTY On July 7th, Cpl. Brian Hobbins and RFC Robert Timmerman conducted a concentrated boating patrol of the Keg Creek area on Clarks Hill Lake. The Columbia County Probate Judge, Alice Padgett, rode with the two Rangers to observe what Georgia Rangers do on a daily boating safety patrol.
WILKES COUNTY On Monday July 2nd, Sgt. Brian Carter was traveling up the highway with one vehicle in front of him and one vehicle behind him. He saw another vehicle approach them from the rear and start to pass them in a no passing zone. Sgt. Carter activated his rear blue light to alert the vehicle attempting to pass all three of them. This small pickup truck continued and passed all three of them anyway. After they cleared the curve, Sgt. Carter activated his blue light and siren to catch up to this small truck. At this time Sgt. Carter also tried to make contact with any state patrol officers in the area. After pursuing this truck a few miles they met a state patrol officer who then took over the pursuit. After a pursuit of approximately 6 miles the small truck ran off the road into a ditch and the driver fled on foot. After the state patrol officer had given up on this subject, Sgt. Carter was able to find him and arrest him in the woods. There were a total of 11 charges on this subject. Some of the charges were; driving under the influence, suspended license, running a red light, speeding, and passing in no passing zone.
ELBERT COUNTY On Saturday July 7th, Cpl. Julian Wilkins and Cpl. Mark Patterson went to a taxidermy shop to investigate a complaint of a taxidermist selling someone's bear. The taxidermist did still have the bear, but had not finished it when promised. During this inspection Rangers did discover the taxidermist had temporarily closed his shop for personal reasons, and had let his license expire. The owner was written for an expired license. Rangers shut the shop down for business until he gets his license renewed.
Region IV- Macon (West Central)
Region V- Albany (Southwest)
Region VI- Metter (Southeast)
DODGE COUNTY On July 1st, Cpl. Stiles assisted the Eastman P.D. and the Dodge County S.O. with numerous calls within the city of Eastman and Dodge County with downed trees blocking roadways and down power lines due to high winds associated with a thunderstorm.
JEFF DAVIS COUNTY On the July 3rd and 4th, RFC Chase Altman and RFC Debbie Brannen worked an illegal fish basket complaint on the Ocmulgee River. After spending over 10 hours conducting an undercover detail watching the baskets, two subjects were finally detained and questioned. The traps were being used to catch turtles, with a new commercial license just created to allow the selling of the turtles. Investigations are still ongoing as to the regulations of such permit. Also one citation was issued for operating a vessel without a personal floatation device.
CHARLTON COUNTY On June 30th, Cpl. Jason Shipes completed an investigation at the Spring Lake area of a poacher-injured Canada goose. A concerned citizen contacted DNR and advised that a goose had been shot with an arrow by someone. The goose was still alive and was actually nesting, even though an arrow was protruding from her. DNR Game Management personnel were able to capture the goose and remove the arrow. Cpl. Shipes learned that a juvenile was responsible and spoke with him and his parents about the incident. Cpl. Shipes asked the parents if they would require their son to attend the next hunter education course offered in the county. The parents agreed to Cpl. Shipes' request and reassured the officer that their son would not commit such an act in the future.
On July 5th, Cpl. Gary Simmons responded to the GA Highway 185 area in response to a wild turkey poaching incident. Earlier that day, an individual was observed shooting at a hen turkey and her brood of poults killing at least two of the birds. Cpl. Simmons located the suspect and interviewed him. The individual was charged with hunting turkeys out of season.
On July 7th, Cpl. Jason Shipes and RFC Mark Pool patrolled the Satilla River at Burnt Fort Landing. One boater was checked resulting in one citation for operating a vessel with insufficient PFD's. Verbal guidance was given for operating a vessel with an unserviceable fire extinguisher. A juvenile operating a personal water-craft was issued verbal guidance on boat operation rules and given a copy of the "Handbook of Georgia Boating Laws and Responsibilities."
WARE COUNTY On July 7th, Cpl. Jason Shipes and RFC Mark Pool patrolled the Satilla River at Jamestown Landing. Two boaters were checked, along with one fishing license, resulting in one citation for littering and one written warning for fishing without a license. Verbal guidance was given for a minor boating-safety equipment violation.
ECHOLS COUNTY On June 25th, Sgt. Patrick Dupree responded to an unlawful dumping complaint near the Melrose community. A landowner encountered an individual on his property discharging liquid from a tank mounted on the back of a large truck. The individual, an employee of a nearby farm operation, stated he was disposing of waste water that contained liquid fertilizer components. He told the landowner that he normally sprays the solution on nearby hay-fields, but due to the wet fields that morning he did not want to damage the grass so he decided to discharge the solution on a woods road adjacent to the fields. The case is still under investigation.
APPLING COUNTY On July 7th, RFC Altman worked a high visibility patrol at Lake Mayers. One citation and two warnings were issued for operating a PWC without wearing a life jacket, towing a skier on a PWC without an observer, and operating a PWC within 100 feet of a public shore.
LAURENS COUNTY On Saturday July 7th, Cpl. Stiles assisted Cpl. Stanford in Region IV on a boating safety patrol on Lake Sinclair. Numerous vessels were inspected for boating safety compliance and equipment. During the patrol Cpl. Stiles assisted with two individuals charged for boating under the influence. Additionally; citations, written warnings, and verbal guidance were given to boaters for various boating safety violations.
SCREVEN COUNTY On July 8th, Cpl .Shaymus McNeely, Cpl .Mike Wilcox, and Sgt. Don Dasher conducted a vessel patrol of the upper Savannah River in Screven County. Officers checked a number of boats in the Burtons Ferry area resulting in one arrest for operating a vessel under the influence of alcohol (BUI).
Region VII- Brunswick (Coastal)
GLYNN COUNTY On July 4th, RFC David Brady conducted concentrated patrols in the Back River and McKay River areas of Glynn County. RFC Brady stopped several boats and PWC's in high complaint areas and cited several subjects for fishing without license's, PWC violations, and lifejacket violations.
On July 7th, Sgt. Chris Hodge and RFC David Brady were dispatched to the beach on Jekyll Island in reference to an alligator swimming in the surf near a large crowd of swimmers. Sgt. Hodge contacted the local nuisance trapper who came to the beach to relocate the alligator.
On July 7th, RFC David Brady and Sgt. Chris Hodge were on saltwater patrol when a complaint came in regarding a boat violating the Safety Zone off East Beach at St Simons Island. Contact was made with the vessel and RFC Brady boarded the boat offshore. The captain was cited for the violation and escorted away from the beach.
CAMDEN COUNTY On July 7th, RFC Craig Smith and Cpl. Wil Smith were conducting fisheries inspections at the St. Mary's River jetties when they encountered a vessel with 19 undersize Sea Trout. Officers seized all illegal fish and both subjects were cited for Possession of illegal salt water fish. On July 1st through July 6th, RFC David Brady, RFC Craig Smith, Captain Doug Lewis, Cpl. Wil Smith, RFC John Evans, Cpl. Michael Crawley, and Sgt. Chris Hodge continued their assistance along with the Camden County SO with the flooding on the St Mary's River in the Browntown and Flea Hill areas. The St. Mary's River experienced a record flood this week following Tropical Storm Debby. The river crested over 12 feet above flood stage, flooding homes at Flea Hill, John's Fish Camp, and Browntown
communities. The Rangers patrolled the river, assisting residents and enforcing the 100' law to minimize the impact of the high water on the homes.
CHATHAM COUNTY On July 2, Ranger Kiel Toney and Cpl. Bill Bryson responded to Hinckley Marina in Thunderbolt for a boating incident. The incident involved a shrimp trawler hitting a dock and vessel tied to the dock causing extensive damage.
On July 4, Ranger Kate Hargrove and Sgt. Cindy Miller were patrolling the Savannah River near River Street when they were called by the Chatham Marine Patrol to assist with a boating incident. The incident involved a boat running into the back of another boat. There were no injuries but there was damage to the two boats.
On July 4, Ranger Kate Hargrove and Sgt. Cindy Miller worked the fireworks on the Savannah River near River Street. The two rangers checked several vessels. Two vessels were cited for operating a vessel during hours of darkness without lights.
On July 7, Cpl. Bill Bryson and Sgt. Cindy Miller patrolled the Wilmington River. The two rangers checked several boats. One operator was cited for towing a tuber without a life jacket. Another operator was cited for not having enough life jackets on the boat. There were eight people and only six life jackets.
BRYAN COUNTY On July 1st, Cpl. Jay Morgan and Ranger Trey Taylor patrolled the Ogeechee River from King's Ferry ramp to Ft. McAllister checking several boaters. No violations were found.
On July 1st, Sgt. James Shelton, Cpl. Phillip Scott, and RFC Jack Thain patrolled the St. Catherine's Sound area checking boaters. Three boaters were cited in Demeries Creek for operating above idle speed within 100 feet of a dock. Later, after returning to the DNR dock at Demeries Creek, Cpl. Scott and RFC Thain heard someone yelling and cussing at the public ramp. Upon investigating, they observed a man park his truck on the ramp, walk down to his docked boat, get into the boat, maneuver it onto the trailer, and then drive his truck up into the parking lot. While checking the man's boating safety equipment, they determined that the man was under the influence. The man was handcuffed and placed under arrest. He then became belligerent, and began cussing at and threatening the officers while he started resisting arrest. Cpl. Scott had to physically restrain the man and hold him down on the ground while Bryan County Sheriff's Dept. was contacted for assistance. When the deputies arrived, the man again began threatening the officers. He was taken into custody by Bryan County and transported to the jail. He was charged with boating under the influence, driving under the influence, and felony obstruction of an officer.
On July 7th, Sgt. James Shelton and Cpl. Jay Morgan patrolled the Medway River and the areas north of St. Catherine's Sound. Two boaters were cited for operating above idle speed within 100 feet of a dock in Demeries Creek and another person was cited for fishing without a license.
On July 7th, Cpl. Phillip Scott, RFC Jack Thain, and Ranger Trey Taylor patrolled the areas south of St. Catherine's Sound. No violations were found.
Later on the afternoon of July 7th, Sgt. Shelton, RFC Thain, and Ranger Taylor cited another boater for operating above idle speed within 100 feet of a dock in Demeries Creek.
WAYNE COUNTY On July 7th, RFC Randy Aspinwall and RNG Jeremy Reese assisted Wayne County with a Governor's Office of Highway Safety road check. Assisting with 7 DUI's and arresting 3 people with warrants.
