Weekly Report October 31-November 6, 2010
This report is a broad sampling of events that have taken place in the past week, but does not include all actions taken by the Law Enforcement Section.
Region I- Calhoun (Northwest)
Region II- Gainesville (Northeast)
BARROW COUNTY On November 2nd, RFC Eric Isom received a complaint from a landowner stating that someone was hunting his property without permission. RFC Isom responded to the scene and the suspect was located. The suspect was hunting from a climbing stand and had fired three shots at three different deer. He killed two deer and missed the third. The suspect was firing in direction of a father and son who was hunting the same property. The father and son were in a double ladder stand approximately 100 yards away from the subject who was illegally hunting. The subject was wearing an orange hat, less than the 500 sq. inches that is required by Georgia law. RFC Isom issued citations and warnings for hunting without permission, hunting big game without wearing fluorescent orange, possession of illegally taken wildlife. Both deer were confiscated. One was released to the landowner and RFC Isom took the other to a processor to be used to feed an organized youth hunt.
JACKSON COUNTY On November 6th, RFC Eric Isom was checking a property with multiple stands. All the stands on the property were baited. RFC Isom located the first subject hunting in a climbing stand. The subject received citations and warnings for hunting big game over bait, hunting without fluorescent orange, hunting without a hunting license, hunting without a big game license, and hunting without having hunter safety certification. The second hunter was found hunting from another climbing stand. RFC Isom took in account that this was his first time on the property. Also, he was facing away from the bait, and the corn was almost gone and not clearly visible from the stand. He received a warning for hunting big game over bait. The third hunter was hunting from a ladder stand. He was also using a .22 magnum bolt-action rifle to hunt. RFC Isom also had prior knowledge that two deer were killed from the baited property. One was killed on October 17th and the other on October 22nd. The third suspect who lived in a residence adjacent to the property admitted to killing the two deer over corn and salt. He received citations and warnings for hunting big game over bait, hunting with illegal weapon, and two counts of possession of illegally taken wildlife. Items seized were one Marlin bolt-action .22 magnum, two tink's bombs, one bottle of golden estrus doe pee, one grunt call, and the meat of the deer that he had killed.
On November 7th, RFC Eric Isom was checking a property baited with corn. RFC Isom found one subject hunting from the ground. The subject received a citation for hunting big game over bait.
BANKS COUNTY On November 6th, RFC Eric Isom participated in an orientation meeting for an upcoming youth hunt in Banks County. RFC Isom and volunteers gave instructions for the youths and adults participating in the hunt. There was sixteen youths selected accompanied by their parents or guardians. JJ's Processors provided Barbeque deer. The public participating in the upcoming hunt were instructed on the rules of the hunt, the areas they will be hunting, and the overall general information about the hunt.
On November 7th, RFC Eric Isom patrolled Wilson Shoals Wildlife Management Area. RFC Isom checked six hunters who had been hunting deer on the WMA.
HALL COUNTY On November 3rd, at approximately 2000 hours, RFC Mark Stephens received a call in reference to a SAR case on Lake Lanier. It was reported that 2 subjects had fell from their sailboat and were still in the water. A third subject, the complainant was still on the boat putting out distress calls over the marine band and calling 911 simultaneously. He reported that his friends had been in the water for approximately 20 minutes and that he could not hear them anymore. RFC Stephens called Sgt. Burgamy and advised him of the situation. As RFC Stephens and Sgt. Burgamy were beginning their search by boat, they received a call from Hall County Dispatch that stated Tow Boat had located the 2 individuals in the water and was en-route to the gas dock at Aqua land Marina. Sgt. Burgamy responded to that location, met with the two victims and administered first aid for hypothermia until medical personnel arrived. RFC Stephens responded to Lake Lanier Sailing Club to interview the 3rd subject who was still in the sailboat. A short while later, both RFC Stephens and Sgt. Burgamy responded to the Medical Center to interview the two victims. After gathering statements and evidence, one of the victims, the owner of the sailboat, was charged with BUI. All three subjects had been drinking alcohol excessively.
DAWSON COUNTY On October 30th, Cpl. Roberson presented a shooting program at River Bend Gun Club. Approximately 90 people participated in this event.
DEKALB COUNTY On October 30th, Cpl. Eric Sanders was patrolling property owned by Dekalb County. While patrolling in the early morning for deer hunters he encountered a subject fishing in the pond on the property. The subject was issued a citation for fishing without permission for the infraction.
FORSYTH COUNTY On November 4th, Cpl. Jason Roberson concluded a weeklong night hunting investigation. This investigation resulted in three people being charged with hunting deer at night and hunting without permission. One person was also charged with misuse of a firearm while hunting.
GWINNETT COUNTY On October 31st, Cpl. Eric Sanders received a complaint from Gwinnett County P.D. in Reference to illegal hunting. Cpl. Sanders encountered a subject hunting deer over bait, hunting with and illegal weapon (.22 magnum) and hunting deer without wearing fluorescent orange. Citations and warnings were issued for these infractions.
LUMPKIN COUNTY On October 24th, Cpl. Jason Roberson received hunting without permission complaint where a deer had been killed. Cpl. Roberson responded to the scene and located blood near the property line and was able to back tract the blood approximately 3/4 mile. Tracking the blood he was able to find where the deer was shot and to a house where the deer was drugged to. Cpl. Roberson interviewed the subject and he confessed to killing the deer. The subject was charged with hunting without permission and possession of illegally taken wildlife
WHITE COUNTY On October 17th, RFC Anne Alexander investigated an illegally killed deer case off Goat Neck Rd. Ranger Alexander interviewed the man and he confessed to killing the sixpoint buck over bait. Corn and piles of acorns were distributed around the man's stand. Ranger Alexander cited the man for hunting big game over bait and confiscated the deer. The deer was donated to the hunters for the hungry in Baldwin, GA.
On October 25th, RFC Anne Alexander interviewed two subjects in reference to a night hunting incident that occurred the night before. One subject confessed to killing a 6pt Buck on Collins Rd. and was out looking for the deer when a deputy stopped him. RFC Alexander cited the man for hunting at night, hunting from a public road and hunting from a vehicle. RFC Alexander confiscated his 7mm magnum rifle for evidence. The other subject was charged for interference with a ranger's duty.
Region III- Thomson (East Central)
WALTON COUNTY On November 6th, RFC Niki Spencer was working a hunting without permission complaint when she found one subject hunting on the property. The subject did not have any license, was hunting over bait, and was not wearing any fluorescent orange. Violations included hunting without permission, hunting without a license, hunting without a big game license, and hunting without wearing fluorescent orange.
WILKES COUNTY On November 2nd, Cpl. Julian Wilkins presented a program for a women's group in Washington. Cpl. Wilkins discussed game and fish laws, responsibilities of Conservation Rangers, and wildlife habitats of Georgia.
ELBERT COUNTY On November 5th, Cpl. Greg Colson responded to 3 hunting without permission complaints and 1night hunting complaint. All complaints are still under investigation.
WILKES COUNTY On November 6th, Sgt. Brian Carter and Wildlife Technician Mark Patterson worked a complaint involving illegal hunting on a closed WMA. No one was found on the WMA.
COLUMBIA COUNTY On October 31st, RFC Timmerman checked a deer stand that was previously found to be baited. RFC Timmerman found one adult and one juvenile hunting over the baited site. The adult was cited for hunting big game over bait. The juvenile was given verbal guidance.
RFC Timmerman checked a deer stand that was previously found to be baited. RFC Timmerman found 1 adult hunting within 200 yards of the baited site with a compound bow. The subject was given verbal guidance.
Cpl. Hobbins checked a deer stand that was previously found to be baited. Cpl. Hobbins found 1 person hunting big game over bait and cited the subject for the same.
On November 1st, RFC Timmerman received a call in reference to possible hunting without permission. RFC Timmerman responded to the area, but was unable to locate anyone. The landowner was given an affidavit. Investigation is pending.
LINCOLN COUNTY On October 6th, Cpl. Swain checked a deer stand that was previously found to be baited. Cpl. Swain found 1juvenile hunting over the baited site without wearing fluorescent orange. The juvenile was given verbal guidance.
GLASCOCK COUNTY On November 5th, RFC Adams was requested by the Glascock Sheriff's Office to assist with serving a warrant. RFC Adams found the subject at a residence. The subject fled on foot. RFC Adams pursued on foot and apprehended the subject. The subject was taken to McDuffie County jail on warrants obtained by the Glascock Sheriff's Office.
TALIAFERRO COUNTY On November 6th, RFC Timmerman and Sgt. Chaffin were on routine patrol. Officers checked a subject who was leaving a hunting club. Officers found that the subject killed a deer without recording the harvest. The subject was given a written warning for failure to record deer harvest.
MCDUFFIE COUNTY On November 1st, Capt. Barnard received a call in reference to hunting without permission in progress, near the region office. Capt. Barnard, Sgt. Chaffin, Cpl. Payne, and RFC Ficklin responded to the scene. Officers found 1 subject hunting on the property without permission. The landowner was unwilling to prosecute. The subject was given verbal guidance for failure to record deer harvest.
RICHMOND COUNTY November 6th, Cpl. Ben Payne patrolled Richmond County checking without permission complaints. He checked several deer stands that were baited making contact with two hunters. No citations were written. That afternoon he received a complaint from a landowner who had a stand stolen. Richmond county S.O. was dispatched to the scene and the stand was recovered. He also received a complaint of a convicted felon hunting behind a trailer park. That afternoon Cpl. Payne investigated the property and no stands were located. After dark Cpl. Payne received a complaint from Burke county dispatch of a deer theft. Cpl. Payne and Sgt. Boswell responded to the theft. Evidence of the theft was collected and Cpl. Payne and Sgt. Boswell went to the violator's residence with a Burke county deputy. The violator was arrested for theft by taking and criminal trespass and transported to the Burke county jail.
WASHINGTON COUNTY On the evening of November 4th, RFC Matherly responded to an in progress night hunting compliant east of Deepstep. When he arrived and spoke with the complainants, he learned that they had seen a White Dodge Dakota shining a light into a clear cut off Leveret road. They advised RFC Matherly that the passenger had fired one shot from the vehicle. One of the complainants drove down their driveway on his UTV to see what was going on. When he reached the bottom of his driveway the truck returned. The complainant then saw that the passenger had gotten out of the vehicle and was in the clear cut looking for what he believed to be a deer. When the driver, of the White Dodge truck, noticed the UTV he took off down the road back to the highway. The other individual ran into the clear cut. RFC Matherly asked Deputy Hartley to run the tag from the vehicle to see where it was from. The truck came back to a residence in Milledgeville. The two officers made contact with Baldwin County and asked that an officer go by the residence. After finding that the vehicle had not returned, the officer's investigated further. After a short investigation, the two individuals were located and interviewed by RFC Matherly. Both subjects were charged with Hunting from a Public Road, Hunting from a Motor Vehicle and Hunting Deer at Night.
GREENE COUNTY Cpl. Derrell Worth helped with the coordination of a youth deer hunt for the "Kid's hunting for a Cure" organization. On November 6th, twenty- two children of various ages and disabilities were given the opportunity to hunt deer on property owned by landowners in Greene, Hancock, and Morgan County. Many of the children harvested their first deer. There were 17 deer and 2 hogs taken during the hunt. The hunt and banquet raised $28,000 dollars for the KHFAC. Other rangers that participated in the hunt were Caption Walter Rabon, Sgt. Matt Garthright, Cpl. David Allen, RFC Richard Tanner, RFC Ricky Boles, RFC Larry Mills, and RFC Josh Copeland.
On Saturday, November 6th, Sgt. Matt Garthright and Cpl. David Allen responded to a hunting accident involving a fatality. The hunter fell 14 feet from tree stand and died as a result.
MORGAN COUNTY After hearing of a man bragging about a big buck being killed over bait, RFC Ricky Boles began an investigation into it. RFC Boles went back to where the man hunts and located bait and blood from the deer. He interviewed hunter and a female that was with him. The female admitted to shooting the deer and the male admitted to putting the bait out. RFC Boles charged the male with Unlawful Enticement and the female with Possession of Illegally Taken Wildlife. The confiscated buck green scored 138 inches.
HANCOCK COUNTY After numerous complaints from hunting clubs about road hunting, Cpl. David Allen apprehended the suspect hunting from his vehicle during a weekday. While patrolling the complaint area, Cpl. Allen spotted a vehicle sitting sideways in the road. Upon seeing Cpl. Allen the driver sped off and tried to enter a hunt club gate. Cpl. Allen stopped the vehicle and heard the driver unloading his rifle. Upon interviewing the driver, Cpl. Allen charged him with Hunting from a Public Road and Hunting from a Vehicle.
Region IV- Macon (West Central)
FULTON COUNTY On November 4th, Sgt. Jim Bradfield completed the University of Georgia Carl Vinson Institute of Government Front Line Leadership Program. During this week long program the participants studied and developed leadership principles and completed an individual class research project.
HARRIS COUNTY On November 2nd, RFC Mitch Oliver checked a property where he had encountered violations in the past. Oliver located two vehicles on the property and found blood in one of the trucks and corn in the back of the other. After checking the tags through the Harris County 911 center, the officer realized one of the vehicles belonged to a subject he had arrested previously for numerous violations, including possession of a firearm by a convicted felon. The officer searched the property for approximately 45 minutes before
locating the hunters. Oliver noticed that neither hunter was wearing fluorescent orange and observed one of the hunters give his rifle to the other as he approached the officer recognized this person as the convicted felon he had arrested before. However, the subject denied ever being in possession of the rifle. RFC Oliver walked the subjects back to the vehicles where the investigation continued. After arriving back at the trucks and while RFC Oliver was interviewing the second hunter, the felon fled into the woods and escaped. Since Oliver knew the identity of this hunter there was no reason to give chase. The second hunter was issued citations for hunting without fluorescent orange and failure to record deer harvest. The other hunter's vehicle was towed and the officer later secured arrest warrants for possession of a firearm by a convicted felon, obstruction of a law enforcement officer, hunting without fluorescent orange, and nonresident hunting with a resident license.
On November 4th, RFC Jeremy Bolen concluded an investigation regarding a trail camera and deer stand that was stolen from private property. A hunter had placed his deer stand and camera on someone else's property which he didn't have permission to be on. The landowner took these items and left a note for the person to contact them. A few days later the landowner noticed a deer stand and trail camera were missing from his property; the individual who took the items left a note indicating that he wanted to meet and exchange the items. After working on the investigation, RFC Bolen secured warrants for the subject for theft by taking, criminal trespass, and unlawful enticement of game.
HOUSTON COUNTY On the morning of November 6th, Cpl. John Harkins and Sgt. Tony Fox checked two deer stands that had previously been found to be baited with corn. One hunter was cited for the offense.
JONES COUNTY On October 31st, Cpl. Bill Goodson cited one hunter for hunting deer over bait; whole kernel corn had been found at this stand the previous weekend.
MERIWETHER COUNTY On the morning of November 6th, Cpl. Keith Waddell was patrolling complaint areas near Warm Springs when he encountered a subject hunting deer on CSX Railroad tracks. The subject not wearing fluorescent orange - was sitting on a cushion propped upon one of the metal rails and was attempting to take deer crossing the tracks. The subject was escorted from the railroad property and issued two citations.
PULASKI COUNTY On November 6th, RFC Tim Butler located three people hunting over bait. Citations were issued to two of the hunters for hunting over bait. One hunter was warned for the baiting violation and for hunting without fluorescent orange.
PUTNAM COUNTY On November 3rd, Cpl. Bubba Stanford and Sgt. Bo Kelly cited a hunter for hunting over bait and hunting without an orange vest. The hunter was given a court date in Putnam County State Court to appear on charges.
On November 4th, Cpl. Bubba Stanford and Sgt. Bo Kelly checked baited deer stands that had been found several days before. One hunter was apprehended hunting over a corn feeder. Another hunter was checked in the vicinity of bait but was far enough away to be legal. Both hunters were non-residents and did not have any hunting license. The men were given appearance citations for Putnam County State Court.
On November 6th, on Cedar Creek WMA, Sgt. Bo Kelly arrested a subject for possession of marijuana after the officer detected the smell of burning marijuana coming from the interior of the vehicle the person was in. The person was transported to the Putnam County jail for processing.
TALBOT COUNTY On the morning of November 6th, RFC Mitch Oliver received a call in regards to a night hunting complaint in Talbot County. Oliver spoke with the complainant and learned that around six thirty that morning the complainant had heard a shot in front of his house. He stated someone shot into one of his pastures and then drove down the road a short distance and shot again. He was able to catch up with the vehicle after the second shot and get the tag number and a description of the truck. Later that evening, RFC Oliver and RFC Bolen went to the complainant's house and spoke with him about the incident and checked the area where the shots came from. The two Rangers then went to the address associated with the vehicle tag and spoke with the father of one of the individuals involved. The officers made arrangements to meet with two subjects involved in this incident at the Talbot County Sheriff's Office to be interviewed. Both subjects began their separate interviews sticking with the story of sighting in their rifles at a tree before realizing that the officers weren't buying this story. Both subjects then confessed to shooting at a small buck in the pasture. They were each charged with hunting deer at night, hunting from a public road and hunting from a vehicle.
TAYLOR COUNTY On the morning of November 6th, Cpl. John Harkins and Sgt. Tony Fox checked several deer stands that had previously been found to be baited with corn. One hunter was cited for the offense.
TROUP COUNTY On November 6th, RFC Jeremy Bolen and Sgt. Brent Railey performed an Information and Education program at Boy Scout Camp Lumpkin. The officers set up the fishing simulator and the laser shot at the event. RFC Bolen also performed a wildlife detection and evidence location demonstration K-9 Ruger.
TWIGGS COUNTY On November 6th, RFC Tim Butler located a deer hunter hunting from a baited stand that had been discovered several days prior. The subject was charged for hunting big game over bait, hunting without a license, and hunting without a big game license.
WILKINSON COUNTY On October 31st, RFC Josh Copelan cited one hunter for hunting deer over bait after the officer apprehended the subject hunting over whole kernel corn. In addition, the hunter had neither an orange vest nor a hunting license. Two citations and two warnings were issued for these violations.
Region V- Albany (Southwest)
EARLY COUNTY On October 31st, Sgt. Rick Sellars and RFC Jeff Phillips conducted a patrol of baited areas in Early County, which resulted in 2 citations for hunting big game over bait, 1 citation for hunting without a license and 1 citation for hunting without wearing fluorescent orange.
BAKER COUNTY On October 31st, RFC Tony Cox worked a night hunting complaint in Baker County, near the Miller County line. He stopped a vehicle after observing the occupants shining a peanut field with headlights and a spotlight. Two subjects were arrested for hunting deer at night, hunting from a vehicle, hunting from a road, and hunting without permission.
DECATUR COUNTY On November 4th, RFC Tony Cox patrolled Silver Lake WMA during the quota hunt. He apprehended one subject and cited him for hunting on a WMA without a quota permit.
On November 5th, RFC Tony Cox patrolled Silver Lake WMA and issued one citation for a non-resident hunting without a WMA license.
On November 6th, RFC Tony Cox patrolled baited areas in Decatur County. He cited two subjects for hunting big game over bait. One of the subjects was also cited for nonresident hunting without a license, non-resident hunting without a big game license, and hunting deer without wearing fluorescent orange.
CALHOUN COUNTY On November 4th, while working on Chickasawhatchee WMA, Cpl. Scott Carroll checked a hunter who reported one of his hunting partners lost. Cpl. Carroll and the hunter went to the last known location and were able to signal to the hunter who responded. The lost hunter was located uninjured.
LEE COUNTY On November 5th, RFC Randy James was working on a complaint concerning someone hunting close to homes. While checking the area several baited stands were located. RFC James found a hunter on one of the stands who was not wearing fluorescent orange. The hunter was charged with hunting over bait and without orange. RFC James also informed the hunter about the county ordinance for shooting near homes. The hunter agreed to relocate his stand
STEWART COUNTY On Saturday November 6th, Cpl. Steve Robinson conducted patrols on Hannahatchee WMA. One violation was documented for hunting deer on a closed WMA.
COLQUITT COUNTY On November 5th, Cpl. Tommy Daughtrey cited a subject for hunting big game over bait and hunting without a license. The subject was also warned for several violations.
On November 6th, Cpl. Tommy Daughtrey and RFC Jon Penuel cited two subjects for hunting deer over bait.
DOOLY COUNTY On November 1st, RFC Clint Martin was working a decoy detail on a road hunting complaint. The Dooly County Sheriff's department assisted on the detail. The suspect drove by but didn't shoot the decoy. The decision was made to stop the suspect because his driver's license was suspended. The suspect was charged with driving on a suspended driver's license, DUI, open container and several other charges. Another man at the suspect's residence was arrested for 2 warrants and misdemeanor obstruction.
DOOLY COUNTY While working a night deer hunting complaint, RFC Clint Martin and RFC Harold Hill saw a vehicle traveling toward their position. The occupants were shining both sides of the road with spotlights. Hill stopped the truck and found 2 occupants with two .270 caliber bolt-action rifles, 2 spotlights, and a freshly killed buck deer. The two suspects were transported to the Dooly County Jail and issued citations for hunting deer at night, hunting big game from a public road, hunting from a vehicle, and possession of illegally taken wildlife.
Region VI- Metter (Southeast)
CLINCH COUNTY On November 1st, RFC Jason Shipes learned of a night hunting incident that occurred during October. RFC Shipes retrieved the call logs for that period from the 911 center. RFC Shipes located a report of shots fired and a tag number for the vehicle the shot was fired from and subsequently fled the area. RFC Shipes located the vehicle and owner in Lowndes County and conducted an interview. During the interview the subject admitted that he and his son were leaving their hunting club and observed several deer along the roadway next to a blueberry field. His adult son then fired one shot from a 12 gauge shotgun using buckshot out of the passenger side window. Citations were issued to both subjects for hunting deer at night, hunting big game from a public road and hunting from a motor vehicle.
ECHOLS COUNTY On November 6th, Sgt. Patrick Dupree and RFC Jason Shipes advised three dog-deer hunting clubs that no valid dog-deer permit existed for their leases. The hunters were gathered and explained to that all dog-deer hunting was to halt until the permits were issued. Any hunters found hunting deer with dogs on the properties before the issuance of the permits would be cited. Two of the leases involved had similar permit problems last season.
APPLING COUNTY On the night of the 5th, RFC Altman was working a night hunting complaint when a vehicle was observed driving very slow down the road behind the area he was working. RFC Altman pulled around and followed the vehicle. The person in the truck was then seen shining a flash light out of the window into several different spots in a pecan orchard. The truck was stopped and one violation of blinding wildlife with lights was documented.
On the morning of the 6th, RFC Altman checked one hunter walking out of the woods from his stand with no orange vest on. A license check resulted in the charge of nonresident hunting w/o license. Later on the evening, RFC Altman was patrolling areas baited for deer. This resulted in one hunter being charged with hunting big game over bait, hunting deer w/o fluorescent orange, non-resident hunting big game w/o big game license, and non-resident hunting w/o hunting license.
On November 7th, RFC Altman was working a complaint of illegal ATV use on Moody Forest WMA and this resulted in several hunters being checked for proper licenses. One hunter was charged with hunting big game w/o license, hunting on WMA w/o WMA stamp, and hunting deer w/o fluorescent orange.
BULLOCH COUNTY On November 5th, Cpl. Dave Sims conducted an evening check of an area known to be baited and located two hunters. Both hunters were hunting over bait and not wearing the required florescent orange clothing. Four violations were documented.
Later that night Cpl. Sims apprehended an individual for hunting deer at night, hunting from a public road and hunting from a motor vehicle. Two firearms, a hand-held light and assorted ammunition was confiscated and held as evidence. The individual was issued citations for the above violations and released at the scene.
On November 6th, Cpl. Eddie Akins responded to a deer dogging complaint out from Stilson. Investigation of the complaint resulted in violations for failure to keep dogs on permitted property, hunting without a license and hunting without a big game license.
On the evening of Saturday November 6th, Cpl. Eddie Akins responded to a deer dogging complaint off Highway 301 south. Investigation of the complaint resulted in a violation for failure to keep dogs on permitted property.
EFFINGHAM COUNTY On November 2nd, RFC Brandon Pierce responded to a complaint in reference to hunting without permission. Upon arriving at the scene three subjects were contacted. A total of three hunting licenses were checked. As a result of the check six violations were documented. The violations consisted of hunting without a license, hunting without a big game license and hunting without permission.
EVANS COUNTY On November 2nd, RFC Debbie Brannen checked a baited area. One violation for hunting big game over bait was addressed.
On November 6th, RFC Debbie Brannen patrolled a complaint area and documented four counts of hunting big game over bait, three counts of non-resident hunting without licenses. Later that afternoon, two violations were documented for resident hunting without big game license and hunting without license. Subjects were given the current hunting regulation booklet for review.
EMANUEL COUNTY On November 6th, RFC Jamey O'Brien set up a multi-officer detail to help cut down on night deer hunting activity. This detail involved the use of an aircraft and 11 DNR Law Enforcement officers; Cpl Mcneely, RFC Pierce, Cpl Sims, RFC Brannen, RFC Altman, Sgt Dasher, Cpl Akins, Cpl Barnard, Sgt Vickers, and RFC Partin were strategically place throughout the county.
As a result of this operation, 12 citations were issued for hunting deer at night, hunting from a public road, hunting from a motor vehicle, blinding wildlife with lights and failure to record deer harvest.
On November 6th, Sgt. William Vickers was working with other officers on a concentrated patrol for night hunting activity. At about 11:00 PM he observed a spotlight being shined from a pickup truck into a field near his position. The occupants were apprehended and cited for blinding wildlife with lights.
On November 6th, while working night hunting off Big Oak Road, Cpl. Shaymus McNeely observed a vehicle driving slowly past the field he was watching. The occupants of the vehicle began shining the field with lights from the passenger side windows. Cpl. McNeely approached and stopped the vehicle and observed the three occupants attempting to unload two rifles and a shotgun. The three men in the vehicle were charged with hunting deer at night, hunting big game from a public road and hunting from a vehicle.
JEFF DAVIS COUNTY During the week of November 1st-6th, RFC Barry Britt worked night hunting deer complaints, a litter complaint, and a complaint of operating a taxidermist business without a license. He also was contacted by a local deer processor reference possible diseased deer meat. RFC Britt picked up the meat and turned it over to wildlife biologist Greg Waters.
LAURENS COUNTY On November 2nd, RFC Horne responded to a night hunting deer compliant off of Mount Olivet Road in which two poachers were charged with hunting deer at night, hunting from a public road, hunting from a vehicle, and possession of illegally taken wildlife. Additionally, the 8-point deer was seized.
On November 5th, RFC Horne responded to a call from Laurens County Sheriff's Office in reference to a night hunting deer complaint off Emory Perry Rd. This investigation led to the apprehension of four poachers that were charged with hunting deer at night, hunting from a public road, hunting from a vehicle, and possession of illegally taken wildlife. Additionally, the yearling buck was seized.
DODGE COUNTY On November 7th, Cpl. Johnny Ashe was checking an old complaint of baited stands off of John Broome road when one subject was found with his daughter hunting over Saw tooth Acorns in the planted pines of the property. He was issued warnings for the violations of hunting big game over bait and hunting without fluorescent orange.
TREUTLEN COUNTY On November 5th, RFC Danielle Partin answered a complaint of hunting without permission. One suspect was charged with hunting without permission, hunting deer without fluorescent orange and convicted felon in possession of a firearm.
