Weekly Report November 21-27, 2010
This report is a broad sampling of events that have taken place in the past week, but does not include all actions taken by the Law Enforcement Section.
Region I- Calhoun (Northwest)
BARTOW COUNTY On Saturday, Sgt. Mike Barr foot patrolled the line of a 2000 acre hunting club off Hobgood Road. He had received numerous complaints of people coming from houses near the area and hunting on the club. As he walked up a hill behind a house, Sgt. Barr found a German Sheppard dog tied to a tree with a leash in the middle of the woods. The dog was tied up on the marked line of the hunting club. Sgt. Barr decided to wait with the dog. Shortly, a shot went off close on the hunting club. Sgt. Barr contacted RFC Byron Young to assist. RFC Young foot patrolled and found a man in a tree lounge tree stand asleep. RFC Young woke him up. Another shot went off approximately 20 yards from where Sgt. Barr was standing but on the hunting club. Sgt. Barr located a 17 year old hunter who was on the club and did not have hunting licenses or hunter safety certification but had shot at a running deer. The dog belonged to him and he had tied him up while hunting. Sgt. Barr found out that a third hunter was also on the club and had killed a doe. He was almost a mile away and was lost. RFC Young had to go and find him and pick him up on a power-line on the hunting club. RFC Young charged all three with hunting without permission, charged the 17 year old with hunting without hunter safety certification, and charged the one who had killed a doe with possession of illegally taken wildlife. The doe was donated to a needy family.
On November 21st, RFC Byron Young worked a complaint of a person hunting deer without permission in a field off Highway 140 at Nalley Road. RFC Young foot patrolled and found a button head deer in the field. He waited and a juvenile hunter returned with an ATV to retrieve the deer. RFC Young was familiar with the juvenile due to previous complaints of the young man raccoon hunting without permission. RFC Young took his age in to account and fully explained the necessity to have permission from the landowner before deer or raccoon hunting.
On November 25th, Sgt. Mike Barr was patrolling when he received a call from a hunter off Mt. Pleasant Road who was in his deer stand hunting. He heard two shots on a hunting club, which had limited members. Another call came in from a second hunter who heard the same shots. Sgt. Barr went to Cagle Road and foot patrolled for an hour. While walking down the side of a creek bed, he discovered a 9-point buck along with a beach chair and hunters daypack. Sgt. Barr waited with the deer and in about a half hour, the hunter returned with an ATV to retrieve the deer. The hunter was checked and did not have a license or big game license. The hunter showed Sgt. Barr where he had taken the deer, which was on property he did not have permission to hunt. He was charged with two license violations and warned for hunting without permission. The 9-point buck was confiscated and donated to a needy family for food.
CARROLL COUNTY On November 25th, Sgt. Danny Crook and Cpl. Eric Brown were patrolling Carroll County and cited one adult for hunting big game over bait, hunting without orange, hunting without hunting license, and hunting without big game license. The subject was also given a verbal warning for allowing a juvenile to hunt over bait and hunting without having taken the hunter education course.
COBB COUNTY On November 26th, RFC Brooks Varnell and his K-9 "Rock" responded to a complaint of hunters without permission on the water authority property off Flint Hill Road. "Rock" and RFC Varnell foot patrolled and quickly found the scent of a hunter. "Rock" tracked a man and found him hunting on the ground in camouflage holding a crossbow. RFC Varnell interviewed the man who was in his 40's and discovered that there was also a female hunter in the area. "Rock" quickly found her trail and tracked her up and found her also hunting with a crossbow. RFC Varnell explained the necessity to have permission from the landowner to hunt and that the water authority was closed to all hunting. Both people were charged with "hunting without permission".
FANNIN COUNTY On November 8th, Sgt. John VanLandingham and Cpl. James Keener responded to a complaint of two suspects shooting at deer from an ATV. The officers interviewed witnesses and located one of the suspects at a residence along with a five-point buck. The second suspect was located and interviewed. During the investigation the officers learned that the buck had been shot with a .22 rifle. The person who killed the buck had already taken one buck this season that did not have four or more points on a side. One suspect was cited for hunting on lands of another without permission, hunting deer with an illegal weapon, possession of illegally taken wildlife, and taking over the bag limit. The second suspect was not charged. The five-point buck was confiscated.
On November 20th, Sgt. John VanLandingham and Cpl. James Keener responded to a complaint of two suspects shooting a deer from a public road. Witnesses had called in the complaint along with a vehicle description. Fannin County Deputy Anthony Galimore located the vehicle traveling on Aska Road and he and Deputy Michael Green stopped the vehicle. There were two juveniles in the vehicle and the deputies located a .270 rifle and button head buck. Sgt. VanLandingham and Cpl. Keener met with the deputies and seized the rifle and the button buck, and turned the juveniles over to their parents. Both juveniles were charged through juvenile court with hunting big game from a public road, hunting from a motor vehicle, and possession of illegally taken wildlife. The driver of the vehicle was additionally charged with violation of his provisional driver's license.
GILMER COUNTY On November 20th, Sgt. John VanLandingham responded to a complaint of three subjects hunting without permission. Upon arrival Sgt. VanLandingham found that one of the hunters was not in possession of a hunting license or a big game license, and was not wearing the required fluorescent orange. That hunter received two citations and one warning. The hunting without permission charges against all the hunters are pending upon further investigation and contacting the landowner.
HARALSON COUNTY On November 27th, Sgt. Danny Crook and Cpl. Eric Brown were patrolling Haralson County and cited two hunters for hunting deer over bait and hunting with insufficient orange.
MURRAY COUNTY On November 7th, RFC Eddie Tompkins was patrolling Coosawattee WMA when a van came sliding around a corner in a reckless manner. RFC Tompkins stopped the vehicle and located marijuana in vehicle. The passenger in the vehicle claimed the marijuana and was issued a citation for Violation of the Georgia Controlled Substance Act, possession of marijuana less than one ounce.
On November 12th, Cpl. Casey Jones issued a citation to a Murray County man for hunting big game over bait. The suspect had killed a buck and was in the process of field dressing the animal when Cpl. Jones encountered him. After a short investigation, it was determined that the hunter was well with in the 200-yard limit of bait when he took the buck. The deer was confiscated.
On the evening of November 12th, Cpl. Casey Jones and Wildlife Technician Larry Etheridge were working an on-going hunting without permission complaint when they heard a high powered rifle shot close to them (nearing legal shooting light). The two Rangers followed up on the shot and located two Murray County men dragging a doe out of the woods. It was not an either sex day in the county. The hunter who shot the doe did not have a license nor had he recorded the harvest. The doe was confiscated and citations for hunting without a license and possession of illegally taken wildlife were issued.
On November 26th, Cpl. Casey Jones issued a Murray County man a citation for hunting without orange. On the same date Cpl. Casey Jones and RFC Eddie Tompkins issued Murray County man citations for hunting without orange and hunting big game over bait.
On November 27th, Sgt. John VanLandingham, Cpl. Casey Jones and RFC Eddie Tompkins issued a Murray County Man a citation for hunting over bait. On the same day the three rangers issued a Whitfield County man a citation for hunting without a license.
PICKENS COUNTY On November 7th, Cpl. James Keener received a complaint in reference to hunting without permission. While investigating the incident, deer blood and hair were found along with an empty shotgun hull. After searching for the suspect's vehicle for several hours, the complainant called back and stated that the vehicle had returned. Cpl. Keener made contact with two individuals, and after questioning them and finishing his investigation, one male subject was charged with hunting without permission and hunting without orange. No deer was recovered. The two individuals had returned to the scene to track the wounded animal with a dog.
POLK COUNTY On November 27th, all Rangers in Region 1 along with the state aviation unit worked a concentrated night deer hunting detail in Polk and Haralson Counties. During the detail, Sgt. Keener and RFC Cody Jones stopped a vehicle with help of the helicopter and charged three subjects for misdemeanor violation of the Georgia Controlled Substance Act. Later, Sgt. Keener and RFC Cody Jones stopped a vehicle night deer hunting and charged four subjects with hunting deer at night, hunting from a public road, and hunting from a motor vehicle. Captain Carroll Chastain and Sgt. John VanLandingham stopped a vehicle for night deer hunting and charged two subjects with hunting deer at night, hunting from a public road, and hunting from a motor vehicle.
Region II- Gainesville (Northeast)
HABERSHAM COUNTY On November 19th, Cpl. Adam Loudermilk and RFC Chad Chambers were working a complaint of someone hunting deer from the road. They set up the decoy deer and within approximately one hour a subject shot the decoy form the road and a vehicle. The subject was stopped and arrested for the violation.
On the morning of November 25th, Cpl. Adam Loudermilk and RFC Chad Chambers checked two baited deer stands. One hunter was located and cited for hunting big game over bait and warned for hunting without orange.
On the evening of November 25th, Cpl. Adam Loudermilk and RFC Anne Alexander were checking baited deer stands. One hunter was located hunting over corn and was not wearing orange. He was warned for the violations. Later that night about 10:45pm Cpl. Loudermilk and RFC Alexander was working a night deer hunting detail. As they were watching a field a truck drove by and shined the field with a spotlight. The officers stopped the vehicle and questioned the four occupants. They admitted they were hunting for deer. They were all arrested and charged with hunting deer at night, hunting from a public road and hunting from a vehicle.
On November 27th, Sgt. Steve Seitz, Cpl. Derek Dillard, Cpl. Adam Loudermilk, and RFC Chad Chambers assisted Georgia State Patrol with a road check. Several game violations were found including failure to record deer harvest and over the limit on buck deer.
WHITE COUNTY On Nov. 20th RFC Anne Alexander was patrolling the closed portion of the Chattahoochee River. She located one subject fishing in closed trout waters. Upon talking with the subject she determined that he also did not have a license. The subject was cited for the violations.
LUMPKIN COUNTY On November 25th, Cpl. Eric Sanders and Cpl. Jason Roberson were looking for a place to hide their truck for a night detail, when they observed a white SUV stopped in the road. Cpl. Sanders saw a subject standing in front of the vehicle and observed him shoot into the field adjacent to the road. The subject was issued citations for hunting from a vehicle and hunting from a public road.
FRANKLIN COUNTY On November 25th, RFC Tim Vickery and Sgt. Stan Elrod checked an area that was baited for deer. One subject was apprehended and charged for hunting over bait.
MADISON COUNTY On November 24th, RFC Shane Sartor and Sgt. Stan Elrod checked a private lake that has been posted where fishing is not allowed. The landowner has had problems with vandalism and thefts on the property. One subject was arrested and transported to Madison County Jail. He was cited for fishing without permission.
HART COUNTY On November 23rd, Cpl. Craig Fulghum checked several swamps for duck hunters. He issued three warnings for hunting without Georgia waterfowl licenses and one citation for hunting without a license. On November 24th, Cpl. Craig Fulghum patrolled the Hart County Wildlife Management Area. He issued a citation to one hunter for hunting on a closed area.
STEPHENS COUNTY On November 21st, Cpl. Bill Bunch checked Owls Swamp near the South Carolina line. He heard shots in the swamp after legal shooting hours for ducks. He issued two citations for hunting waterfowl after legal hours.
On November 24th, Cpl. Bill Bunch issued two warnings for hunting with an unplugged gun to two duck hunters.
On November 25th, Cpl. Bill Bunch checked an area that had been baited for deer. He apprehended one subject and cited him for hunting over bait. As he was leaving, he saw a subject with an orange vest run down the road bank and jump into the passenger seat with the subject he had just cited. Bunch approached the truck and asked the second subject for his licenses. He advised Bunch that he had not been hunting. The subject had some buckshot in his pockets. Cpl. Bunch found a shotgun in the woods covered with leaves. The man admitted the gun was his. He did not have a hunting license or a big game license. He was issued two citations and arrested due an outstanding warrant in another county.
On November 27th, Cpl. Bill Bunch and Sgt. Stan Elrod checked an area leased by a group of North Carolina hunters. Several weeks ago, Cpl. Bunch took a warrant on one of the subjects for a doe that had been killed out of season. He was arrested on the warrant and cited for hunting without a license. The subject's father was cited for hunting without fluorescent orange and warned for hunting without a license.
On November 27th, Cpl. Adam Loudermilk and RFC Anne Alexander were patrolling the Lake Russell WMA deer hunt. They located a truck with blood and antlers in the back and began questioning the two occupants if the deer were killed on the hunt. Upon further investigation one deer was killed on the hunt and wasn't reported to the check station due to the hunter not having a license. The other hunter was found to be hunting on resident licenses when he was a non-resident who lived in South Carolina. He also admitted to killing a doe several weeks prior and didn't record the harvest. It was also determined that they were transporting a loaded firearm in the vehicle. The non-resident was arrested for the violations and the other subject was cited for his violations.
JACKSON COUNTY On November 24th, a property owner notified RFC Eric Isom that someone shot a buck off his food plot from the adjoining property. He also believed that the person may have already killed three bucks this year. RFC Isom collected evidence from the scene. RFC Isom also knew who the subject was because he had apprehended the subject in the past for game violations. RFC Isom traveled to the suspect's residence to interview him. Outside the subjects residence, RFC Isom noticed two-buck racks drying on a sawhorse outside a small shed. RFC Isom looked through the window of the shed a saw a third buck rack with taxidermist materials. After interviewing the subject he admitted to all the charges. He received citations and warnings for killing three bucks that year, one without permission, and providing taxidermist service to other individuals without a license. The racks were seized as evidence.
BANKS COUNTY On November 26th and November 27th, Cpl. Adam Loudermilk and RFC Eric Isom participated in a two-day youth only hunt on Banks County property. Sixteen youths accompanied by one parent/guardian participated in the hunt. The youths involved in the hunt harvested five bucks and four does. Citizens from Nails Creek Baptist church provided food and drinks for the all the participants of the hunt.
Region III- Thomson (East Central)
RICHMOND COUNTY On November 25th, Cpl. Ben Payne worked hunting without permission complaints in Richmond County. He checked several complaint areas with no contacts made. He checked two baited stands and made contact with two hunters illegally hunting over bait. Late in the evening he listened for a complaint roost shoot in south Richmond County. That night he worked a complaint of night hunting with no contact made.
OGLETHORPE COUNTY On November 27th, RFC Phillip Nelson and Tech. Kevin VonSeggeren assisted Oglethorpe County S.O. with a complaint of several subjects hunting who were convicted felons. The subjects were located and found not to be convicted felons, but were hunting over bait and without licenses. The subjects were from Florida and North Carolina.
ELBERT COUNTY On November 26th, Cpl. Julian Wilkins and Cpl. Greg Colson responded to a hunting incident. A subject was getting ready to climb down from a ladder stand when he slipped and fell to the ground. The subject received a cracked vertebrae and cracked ribs.
WILKES COUNTY On November 23rd, Sgt. Brian Carter and Cpl. Greg Colson responded to a hunting without permission complaint. 2 subjects had been dropped off and were seen crossing a gas line on the landowner's property. After approximately 2 hours the subjects came out of the woods. They were both charged with hunting without permission.
On November 26th, Sgt. Brian Carter responded to a hunting incident in Wilkes County. The ladder stand a subject was climbing separated from the tree and the subject fell to the ground. He was transported to Athens Regional Hospital with an injured back and a broken collarbone.
WASHINGTON COUNTY On November 27th, RFC Matherly and Cpl. Crawley finished a month long investigation, involving the dumping of deer carcasses on the side of Oaky Grove Church road in Washington County. The officers started the investigation after the remains of two deer were dumped on the side of the road in front of a house. The subject contacted RFC Matherly and reported that he had noticed that two freshly killed seer had been dumped in the ditch in front of his house sometime early that morning. After responding to the location, RFC Matherly was able to photograph a set of ATV track and found a fresh beer can, of which he recorded the lot number off the bottom of the beer can. RFC Matherly followed the ATV tracks and a short blood trail back to a hunting camp down the road from where the deer had been dumped. When he arrived he found that all the members from the club had left for the weekend, but did find an ATV that had matching tire tracks, and several beer cans in a fire ring by a camper that had the same lot numbers as the can found on the side of the road. The ATV also had fresh blood on the racks and fenders of the vehicle. During the next four weeks following RFC Matherly and Cpl. Crawley returned to the camp and noticed that more deer had been dumped on the roadway in close proximity to the first dumping location, and tried to make contact with someone in the camp but no one was there.
On November 27, RFC Matherly and Cpl. Crawley returned again and make contact with a subject from Oconee County and questioned him about his ATV and the deer that had been dumped on the road way. He admitted that he did carry off the remains of his deer and threw them out and also disclosed a second location that the club used on a regular basis for dumping their deer. The subject stated that he had killed three deer this season and had hauled off all the remains of those deer. After checking his hunting license it was found that he had not tagged any of his deer. The subject was given a citation for illegal dumping and warned for failure to record deer harvest.
BURKE COUNTY On November 25th, RFC's Jeffrey Billips and Grant Matherly checked an area with multiple baited deer stands. The rangers were able to locate one hunter responsible for the baited area.
GREENE COUNTY While checking duck hunters on the Oconee River Cpl. Derrell Worth checked three hunters that were not hunter safety certified and one without a Georgia Waterfowl license and hunting license.
While checking baited deer stands that he had previously found, Cpl. Derrell Worth located one person hunting deer over bait. The hunter was charged with Hunting Big Game over Bait.
Region IV- Macon (West Central)
BALDWIN COUNTY On the morning of November 25th RFC Josh Copelan checked an area off of Hwy. 212 for deer hunting activity. Two hunters were found hunting over bait - one had also killed a deer earlier that morning. The hunters were charged with hunting over bait, hunting without a license, hunting without fluorescent orange and possession of illegally taken wildlife. The deer was seized and donated to a food bank in Milledgeville.
On the morning of November 27th Cpl. Bill Goodson checked a deer hunter in the western part of the county. The hunter, a resident of Florida, did not possess a valid hunting license and was hunting without fluorescent orange and over bait. Citations were issued for the violations.
BLECKLEY COUNTY On November 25th RFC Tim Butler and Cpl. Robert Stillwell checked a duck hunter who was hunting a small irrigation pond. While doing so officers noticed the pond was baited with corn and found the hunter did not have a valid federal waterfowl stamp. Later that day the officers checked several deer stands that had been previously documented as being baited. One subject was issued a citation for hunting big game over bait.
BUTTS COUNTY On November 26th RFC Wil Smith received a call of duck hunters possibly hunting on High Falls State Park. Smith responded and found the hunters had gone onto the park lake but were not hunting. Two hunters received warnings for license violations.
On November 27th RFC Wil Smith checked duck hunters along the South River. One warning was issued for a license violation.
CRAWFORD COUNTY On November 23rd Cpl. Robert Stillwell, Ranger Kevin Joyce, and Technician Greg Wade completed an investigation regarding the alleged illegal taking of a twelve point buck over bait. Officers were able to determine the exact location of kill and documented the presence of a corn feeder at the kill site. After interviewing the suspect and gaining a confession, officers charged the hunter with hunting big game over bait and possession of illegally taken wildlife. The deer, which had been stored at a local deer cooler, was confiscated.
On the morning of November 26th Ranger Josh Swain was listening for duck hunting activity when he heard a shoot going on. With the assistance of Ranger Kevin Joyce, the officers were able to locate the shoot and two hunters were encountered. Upon checking the creek where the subjects were hunting, officers found the area baited with corn. Both subjects were charged for hunting ducks over bait.
On November 27th RFC Kevin Joyce received a complaint regarding illegal waterfowl hunting. He responded to the location and found four subjects shooting well after the legal hunting hours for migratory game birds. All four hunters were issued citations for the infractions.
HARRIS COUNTY On the morning of November 25th RFC Mitch Oliver checked a baited deer stand in the Ellerslie area that he had received a complaint about the day before. Oliver found two hunters on the four acre property. Neither of these hunters was wearing the required fluorescent orange clothing or possessed a hunting license - both were hunting over bait. Each subject was charged with hunting without a license, hunting big game over bait, and hunting deer without fluorescent orange. They were both issued warnings for hunting without a big game license.
HOUSTON COUNTY On November 21st Cpl. John Harkins was contacted by the Houston County Sheriff's Department to an ongoing tire dumping complaint. After investigating and taking evidential documentation Harkins turned the case over to the Environmental Protection Division for further action.
On November 22nd Cpl. John Harkins checked duck hunters at Knowles Landing on the Ogmulgee River. Two citations and three warnings were issued for waterfowl related violations.
JASPER COUNTY On November 22nd, while checking a hunting without permission complaint, RFC Billy Bryant located a four wheeler parked near a property line. Bryant looked around the ATV and located tracks that went onto the property he was checking. RFC Bryant deployed K9 Drake on the footprints and Drake tracked-up two individuals hunting on the private property without permission. Citations were issued for hunting without permission, hunting without a license, hunting without big game license, and failure to wear fluorescent orange.
LAMAR COUNTY On November 25th RFC Keith Page and Sgt. Tim Kendrick were patrolling Lamar County when they located a parked truck that appeared to belong to a deer hunter. Page and Kendrick waited for the hunter to come back to the vehicle. Once the hunter arrived, Page and Kendrick discovered that he did not have any fluorescent orange. The hunter was also found to be hunting without a license and big game license. The hunter advised the officers that his father was also hunting with him. RFC Page went into the woods to find the young man's father who was also found to be hunting without wearing any fluorescent orange. Both men were charged with hunting without fluorescent orange and the young man was charged with hunting without a big game license and warned for hunting without a license.
On November 25th RFC Page located a man and his son sitting in a baited deer stand near Old Milner Road. The man was not wearing any fluorescent orange and had not made his young son wear any either. Despite the man's belligerent attitude RFC Page decided to charge the man with hunting over bait and give him a warning for not wearing any fluorescent orange.
On the morning of November 27th RFC Keith Page discovered a deer stand that was baited with a pile of corn. Later that evening RFC Page returned and observed a hunter, not wearing fluorescent orange, sitting in the stand. Page cited the man for hunting big game over bait and warned him for failure to wear fluorescent orange.
MONROE COUNTY On November 25th Cpl. Tony Wynne conducted routine patrol for hunting activity. During the course of the day he found one deer hunter not wearing fluorescent orange. Later that evening, he came upon a traffic accident and rendered assistance by directing traffic until a county deputy arrived.
On November 26th Cpl. Tony Wynne and Sgt. Tim Kendrick checked a baited stand that Wynne had previously found. Although no one was on that stand, Wynne and Kendrick knew someone was in the area. They followed an adjacent trail and discovered a hunter hidden under a poncho in a tree stand that overlooked a feeder containing corn. The hunter had previously been caught some years ago by Kendrick for hunting turkeys over bait.
PEACH COUNTY On November 26th Sgt. Tony Fox discovered a dove field that had been prepared in such a manner so as to constitute a baited field. Because season was to open the next day and hunters were not on the field at the time, the baited area was "flagged" pursuant to state law.
On the morning of November 27th Sgt. Tony Fox checked several deer stands that had previously been found to be baited with corn. One subject was apprehended and cited for hunting big game over bait.
PULASKI COUNTY On November 21st RFC Tim Butler checked two duck hunters returning to the county boat landing on the Ocmulgee River. Butler discovered three wood ducks and a small bag of lead shot hidden in hunters' boat. Both hunters were issued citations for possession of lead shot while waterfowl hunting and possession of illegally taken wildlife. Additionally, the operator of the vessel was issued a citation for operating a vessel during hours of darkness without lights.
PUTNAM COUNTY On the morning of November 25th Cpl. Bubba Stanford and Sgt. Bo Kelly patrolled an area of Lake Oconee near Sugar Creek Marina where they had discovered waterfowl bait. Just after daylight, numerous gunshots were heard and three hunters were found hunting the baited area. Citations were issued for the violation. Later that same morning, while on patrol, the officers located a hunter parked sideways in a public road. The subject had a loaded Browning rifle and admitted to looking for deer. He was charged with hunting from a public road.
On the morning of November 27th Cpl. Bubba Stanford checked an area off of Gray Highway where he had received complaints of hunting without permission. Stanford located two hunters hunting the posted area without permission. The hunters were charged with hunting without permission, hunting without fluorescent orange, and hunting without a license.
TALBOT COUNTY On the evening of November 25th RFC Mitch Oliver was contacted by Talbot County 911 in regards to a hunter being found deceased in his deer stand. RFC Oliver responded to the scene and was later joined by RFC Jeremy Bolen and Sgt. Jim Bradfield. Results of the investigation are pending.
On November 25th RFC Jeremy Bolen located a duck shoot and checked four hunters who had taken eleven wood ducks. One of the hunter's Georgia waterfowl license had expired a week earlier. The hunter was issued a courtesy warning for the violation.
On the night of November 26th RFC Oliver was working a night hunting complaint when he heard a gunshot approximately mile away. Oliver left his location and drove down the road searching for a vehicle that the shot could have come from. RFC Oliver observed a vehicle in a field but the truck was behind a fence and locked gate. Once the occupants of the truck realized that a Ranger was attempting to enter the property they jumped from the truck and fled on foot. The officer parked his truck and jumped the fence to try and locate the subjects. Oliver observed at least two of the individuals running through some short pines and realized they were heading towards a house at the back of the property. Instead of giving chase, RFC Oliver went to the vehicle and located a loaded Marlin 35 Caliber rifle, a spent shell casing in the floorboard, and a spotlight sitting in the backseat. There was also an odor of marijuana coming from the vehicle. After securing the evidence in his patrol truck, RFC Oliver made entry to the property and located the four subjects involved in the night hunting incident. All four were juveniles and had been drinking beer. All information was gathered from them and their parents were called. Each will be charged with hunting deer at night, hunting from a vehicle, possession of alcohol by an underage person, and interference with the duties of a Ranger.
On November 26th RFC Jeremy Bolen checked a deer hunter in Talbot County and found that he had a big game license but not a regular hunting license. The hunter was issued a written warning for the violation.
TAYLOR COUNTY On November 26th Cpl. John Harkins checked a baited deer stand and issued one citation for hunting big game over bait.
On the morning of November 27th Ranger Josh Swain and Cpl. John Harkins checked baited deer stands they had located earlier in the week. One subject was found to be hunting from one of the stands and was cited for hunting big game over bait.
TROUP COUNTY On the morning of November 26th RFC Mitch Oliver assisted Sgt. Jim Bradfield with checking a hunting club where Bradfield had received a complaint. Sgt. Bradfield had located bait on the property the previous evening and earlier in the year as well. The two officers located two hunters that were in the woods that morning. One of these hunters did not have a valid nonresident hunting license and was issued citations for nonresident hunting without a license and nonresident hunting without a big game license.
TWIGGS COUNTY On November 20th Cpl. Robert Stillwell responded to a complaint regarding duck hunters hunting without permission in a slough off of the Ocmulgee River. Three individuals, who had entered the property by boat, were contacted and the officer observed a dead wood duck as well as a dead deer in their vessel. One of the hunters advised he had seen the deer while duck hunting and shot it with #3 steel shot. He was cited for hunting deer without permission as well as possession of illegally taken wildlife.
WILKINSON COUNTY On the morning of November 24th Cpl. Stan Semmler checked a number of baited deer stands in the southern part of the county. One hunter was located and received a citation for hunting big game over bait.
Region V- Albany (Southwest)
EARLY COUNTY On November 25th, RFC Tony Cox and RFC Jeff Phillips located a baited dove shoot citing eight subjects for hunting over bait and two for taking over the limit. The rangers confiscated 63 dove.
On November 26th, Sgt. Rick Sellars and RFC Jeff Phillips conducted a patrol citing 2 subjects for hunting big game over bait, 1 for hunting deer without wearing fluorescent orange, and 3 for hunting dove over bait.
On November 27th, RFC Jeff Phillips responded to a hunting incident with injuries in Early County. A father and son were standing together on a dove shoot, when the juvenile's .410 shotgun discharged. The shot went through the father's forearm and entered his abdomen. The victim was transported to the hospital in Dothan Alabama.
GRADY COUNTY On November 25th, Sgt. Rick Sellars and Cpl. Mike Binion located a baited duck shoot and cited three subjects for hunting waterfowl over bait. One subject was also cited for hunting with an unplugged gun and hunting with illegal ammunition.
TURNER COUNTY On November 25th, RFC Al Greer and Cpl. Robbie Griner were working a night deer hunting complaint when they arrested one male subject for hunting deer at night and hunting from a motor vehicle.
WORTH COUNTY On November 26th, Cpl. Robbie Griner and RFC Al Greer cited three male subjects for hunting big game over bait, non-residents without license and no orange vests.
CALHOUN COUNTY On November 25th, Cpl. Scott Carroll and RFC Ben Roberts cited 12 dove hunters for hunting over bait, 101 mourning doves were confiscated.
RANDOLPH COUNTY On November 25th, RFC Bob Holley cited a hunter for hunting big game over bait and for hunting deer without fluorescent orange. An individual that was with the hunter was cited for accompanying a deer hunter without wearing fluorescent orange. Later in the day RFC Holley encountered two 9 year old boys hunting alone in separate baited deer stands without fluorescent orange. The father of both 9 year olds was located hunting on a separate tract of land approx. 1/2 a mile away. The adult was cited for allowing an underage person to hunt without supervision and for unlawful enticement of game. A second adult on the property was cited for hunting without a license and for hunting big game without a big game license. Another juvenile was located on a second piece of property hunting over bait as well. His father was located in an adjacent deer stand. He was also cited for unlawful enticement of game.
On November 27th, RFC Holley was conducting a patrol for night deer hunting activity when he observed the occupants of a pick-up truck hunt several fields along the roadway. Both subjects were arrested for hunting deer at night, hunting from a public road and hunting from a motor vehicle and transported to the Randolph County Jail. On November 28th, RFC Bob Holley heard gunshots coming from a wooded area just outside the Cuthbert city limits. RFC Holley located two adults and several juveniles shooting doves over a small food plot. Upon checking the area it was determined that the food plot was baited with corn. The two adults were cited for hunting doves over bait.
CRISP COUNTY On November 21st, Cpl. Tommy Lawrence and RFC Harold Hill were working complaints regarding night deer hunting near the Crisp County line. At about 02:20 AM, RFC Hill made a stop of a vehicle using a spotlight that was being shined into a pecan orchard. Although no weapons were in the vehicle, the driver was impaired. The subject was charged with blinding wildlife with lights and driving under the influence. Other hunting encounters throughout the holiday week included citations involving hunting deer without fluorescent orange, non-resident hunting without a licenses, unlawful enticement of game, and hunting big game over bait.
STEWART COUNTY On November 25th, Cpl. Steve Robinson was called to a hunting incident in Stewart County. A deer hunter had fallen out of a ladder tree stand. The hunter suffered a broken leg and arm as a result. The hunter was transported to Columbus Regional Medical Center for treatment.
CLAY COUNTY During the week of November 21-27, RFC Jim Atchley patrolled Clay County for hunting activity. During these patrols he wrote 6 citations for hunting deer without fluorescent orange, 3 for hunting big game over bait, 2 for hunting without licenses, 2 for non-resident hunting without licenses, 1 for non-resident hunting without big game license and 1 for failure to record deer harvest.
QUITMAN COUNTY Cpl. B.J. Foster conducted patrols in and around Quitman County during the week of November 21-27. During these patrols he issued 8 citations for hunting deer without fluorescent orange, 7 for non-residents hunting without licenses, 3 for non-resident hunting without big game licenses, 2 for hunting big game over bait, 2 for hunting without permission and 1 for unlawful enticement.
BROOKS COUNTY On November 23rd, RFC Jon Penuel and Sgt. David Ruddell responded to an in progress night hunting complaint. The suspects had shot a deer directly in front of a residence and the homeowner was able to retrieve a tag number and advised the Rangers that the suspects had abandoned their vehicle and fled the area on foot. While on scene, the Rangers learned that the fleeing suspects had called 911 and reported their abandoned truck as being stolen as they were on the run. After responding and completing a thorough investigation reaching over into the next day, one subject was charged with hunting deer at night, hunting from a vehicle and hunting without permission. A second subject was charged with the same hunting charges as well as making false statements and falsely reporting a crime.
COLQUITT COUNTY On November 21st, RFC Randy Davis investigated a complaint of night deer hunting. Members of a hunting club heard a shot on the highway and rushed to the area. They obtained a tag number and vehicle description of the vehicle involved in the incident. And shot deer was located. On the following day Ranger Davis interviewed two subjects involved in the incident and charged each one with hunting deer at night, hunting from a vehicle, hunting from a public road and hunting without permission.
On November 21st, Cpl. Tommy Daughtrey checked two subjects hunting deer over bait. Both subjects were charged with hunting big game over bait. One subject was charged with multiple license violations and warned for hunting without permission.
On November 27th, Cpl. Daughtrey checked three subjects hunting ducks after legal hours. Two of the subjects were juveniles. One subject was charged with hunting waterfowl after hours and warned for license violations.
On November 27th, Region 5 Law Enforcement Officers worked a concentrated patrol for night deer hunting. A total of 4 subjects were caught and charged with hunting deer at night and numerous other related charges.
MITCHELL COUNTY On November 25th, Sgt. David Ruddell and R.F.C. Randy Davis checked a baited dove field in West Mitchell County. Eight subjects were charged with hunting over bait. Three subjects were charged with taking over the legal bag limit.
TIFT COUNTY On November 23rd, Cpl. Tommy Daughtrey responded to a hunting without permission complaint. After an investigation was conducted one subject was charged with hunting big game over bait and hunting deer without fluorescent orange.
THOMAS COUNTY On November 24th, Sgt. David Ruddell responded to a hunting with permission call. After a brief search, a subject was found hunting from a tree stand over bait and without wearing the required florescent orange. Although hunting very near the property line, it was determined that the subject did have permission to hunt where he was located. The individual was charged with hunting big game over bait and issued a warning for the fluorescent orange violation.
Region VI- Metter (Southeast)
LAURENS COUNTY On Saturday the November 27th, Cpl. Johnny Ashe was patrolling the Beaverdam Wildlife Management Area when he encountered a subject driving on the WMA with an open beer. After further investigation it was also determined that the subject had a loaded .410 shotgun in the seat next to him. The shotgun was loaded with a slug during the buck only big game hunt. The violator was charged for the consumption of alcohol on a WMA and transportation of a loaded firearm on a WMA as well.
DODGE COUNTY On November 28th, Cpl Johnny Ashe located a man and woman hunting deer on a heavily baited area off Free Gift Church road. The two subjects were also found to be hunting without any licenses or fluorescent orange. These subjects were determined to be nonresidents and were issued citations for hunting big game over bait, hunting without fluorescent orange, non-resident hunting without license and non-resident hunting without big game license.
On November 27th, Cpl Johnny Ashe was patrolling a complaint area off Parkerson Church and found one subject sitting in a deer stand without his fluorescent orange vest. After further investigation to the area it was also found that he was hunting over bait and without any big game licenses. Citations were issued to the subject for the violations.
LAURENS COUNTY On November 20th, while patrolling the Oconee River landings in Laurens County, RFC Rodney Horne checked 4 duck hunters on the Oconee River coming out. These four duck hunter where addressed with 10 different violations including operating a vessel without flotation devices, unplugged guns, no GA waterfowl licenses, and failure to sign and attach federal migratory bird stamp to license.
TELFAIR COUNTY On November 25th, RFC Rodney Horne was patrolling a baited hunting club in Telfair County. RFC Horne encountered a non-resident juvenile hunting over bait, hunting without licenses and hunting without fluorescent orange vest but was given verbal guidance. The adult nonresident found further down, was cited for hunting without a license, hunting without big game license, hunting deer over bait and hunting deer without wearing fluorescent orange.
CANDLER COUNTY On November 25th, Cpl. Dave Sims and RFC Debbie Brannen were patrolling for hunting activity in south Bulloch County when a gunshot was heard coming from private property across the creek in Candler County. The Rangers investigated the shot and located a man who had shot an opossum he had captured in a live-trap. Violations were addressed for trapping out of season and trapping without a license and verbal guidance for using an untagged trap.
COOK COUNTY On November 25th, Cpl. Greg Moody checked several dove shoots. A non-resident hunting without license was cited. In another incident, deer hunters were located hunting w/o fluorescent orange and no license on person.
On November 26th, Cpl. Moody encountered a hunter with a doe and an 8-point buck that he had killed. He was cited for failure to record deer harvest.
On November 27th, Cpl. Moody cited two hunters with multiple violations in regards to an investigation of night deer hunting that occurred on November 19th.The investigation is continuing due to another subject involved. Also two hunters were cited for hunting deer without license, without big game license and failure to wear fluorescent orange vests.
LOWNDES COUNTY While checking dove fields on November 25th, RFC Keith McDonald cited two dove hunters for hunting without licenses, and another was cited for hunting with an unplugged shotgun.
On November 27th, RFC McDonald patrolled areas baited for deer. The patrol resulted in the issuance of citations for hunting deer without fluorescent orange and hunting big game over bait. Written warnings were also issued for non-resident hunting without a license and non-resident hunting without a big game license.
CLINCH COUNTY On November 23rd, RFC Jason Shipes completed an investigation of an incident that occurred on November 20th. Three individuals were traveling together down a countymaintained road in the Argyle area and observed a hen turkey on the right-of-way. The turkey was shot and killed using a .25-06 rifle. All three subjects were charged with hunting big game from a public road, hunting from a motor vehicle, taking totally protected wildlife and hunting out of season.
WARE COUNTY On November 25th, RFC Jason Shipes was working a night-deer hunting complaint area in Manor. RFC Shipes observed a vehicle approach his location and headlight the field. RFC Shipes stopped the vehicle and found a loaded 12-gauge shotgun and .30-06 boltaction rifle. The occupants were arrested and transported to the Ware County Sheriff's Department. Citations for hunting deer at night, hunting big game from a public road, hunting from a motor vehicle and hunting without permission were issued.
ATKINSON/LANIER COUNTIES On November 20th through November 27th, RFC Tim Hutto and K9 Gauge concentrated their patrols on complaint areas in Lanier and Atkinson Counties. During the week of patrols, RFC Hutto and K9 Gauge confiscated several whitetail buck deer, one spotlight, one high power rifle, and issued over forty citations and warnings. The charges consisted of hunting deer at night, hunting big game from a public road, hunting from a vehicle, possession of illegally taken wildlife, hunting big game over bait, hunting without a license, hunting without a big game license, hunting deer without fluorescent orange, taking over the limit of antlered deer, non-resident hunting without a license, and several deer dog hunting violations.
ATKINSON COUNTY On November 27th, RFC Hutto received a call from a GSP officer on highway 135. The Trooper was requesting RFC Hutto's assistance with a traffic stop in which two subjects from Florida were in possession of three whitetail bucks. After questioning the individuals, he found that neither of the subjects was licensed to hunt in Georgia. The three bucks were seized and citations were issued for non-resident hunting without a license, non-resident hunting without a big game license and possession of illegally taken wildlife. The deer were donated to the hunters for the hungry program.
On November 26th, RFC Tim Hutto and K9 Gauge checked an area that was baited for deer that had been found previously that day by RFC Hutto and Sgt. David Nugent. One subject was located hunting approximately ten yards from shelled corn. Another subject was located by K9 Gauge who was lying on the ground beside a fallen tree in a creek bottom without an orange vest. Citations and warnings were issued for hunting deer without fluorescent orange, hunting big game over bait, non-resident hunting without a license, and non-resident hunting without a big game license. LANIER COUNTY On November 27th, RFC Tim Hutto and K9 Gauge were checking an area that was baited for deer. While approaching a deer stand, they were startled by a rifle shot close by. They approached the stand and found a hunter, hunting within seventy yards of two baited areas. The hunter was questioned about the shot and admitted to shooting a buck at one of the baited sites. Citations and a warning were issued for hunting big game over bait, hunting without a license, hunting without a big game license, and possession of illegally taken wildlife. An eight-point buck was seized and donated to the hunters for the hungry program.
BERRIEN COUNTY On November 24th, Cpl. Morty Wood checked a complaint area for hunting without permission and hunting over bait. When he came into view of the baited area he observed an individual in camouflage carrying a rifle hurriedly walking in the other direction. Cpl. Wood commanded the individual to stop while identifying himself by shouting, "GAME WARDEN". A foot chase ensued for approximately 250 yards before the subject tripped and fell, allowing Cpl. Wood the opportunity to physically restrain him. An acquaintance of the first hunter was soon located also. Both poachers were cited for hunting without permission, hunting big game over bait, hunting without a license, hunting without a big game license, and hunting deer without fluorescent orange. Upon checking criminal histories, it was discovered that the person that attempted to run was a convicted felon. A warrant is being taken for convicted felon in possession of a firearm.
On November 25th, Cpl. Morty Wood patrolled for deer hunters in a baited area. One hunter was cited for hunting deer over bait.
On November 26th, Cpl. Morty Wood issued a citation for hunting ducks with an unplugged shotgun in the morning at Rays Mill Pond and cited an individual hunting raccoons from a vehicle and with a light exceeding 6 volts later that night in the same area.
On November 26th, Sgt. David Nugent, Cpl. Morty Wood and RFC Tim Hutto conducted a waterfowl patrol at Rays Mill Pond. Several hunters were checked and two were cited for unplugged shotgun and hunting without waterfowl licenses.
TATTNALL COUNTY On November 27th, RFC Debbie Brannen responded to a deer dogging complaint. One violation was documented for failure to keep hunting dogs on permitted property. The dog was released to the owner.
EVANS COUNTY On November 26th, RFC Debbie Brannen was working a complaint on the north end of the county. Several hunters were checked and one violation was documented for hunting without fluorescent orange clothing.
BULLOCH COUNTY Sgt. William Vickers conducted several patrols of Oliver Bridge WMA during the weeklong either-sex deer firearm hunt on the area. No violations were detected, but one hunter did lodge a complaint of deer dogs running a deer through the WMA.
On November 25th, Cpl. Dave Sims located a hunter using a climbing deer stand on property that bait was located earlier in the season. The hunter was found to be of sufficient distance from the bait but was not wearing the required fluorescent orange clothing. The hunter was issued a citation and released at the scene.
After sunset on Friday, November 26th, Sgt. William Vickers located a duck roost shot in progress. He contacted Cpl Eddie Akins for assistance. Upon his arrival they were unable to locate the hunters. Suspecting that the hunters were hiding in the area, Cpl Dave Sims and RFC Brandon Pierce responded to the scene. After about an hour RFC Pierce apprehended the pair of hunters in a wooded area. They were charged with hunting ducks after legal hours.
On Saturday November 20th, Cpl. Eddie Akins and Sgt. William Vickers checked four duck hunters, which resulted in a violation for hunting without a state waterfowl license and a violation for hunting without a license being documented.
On Saturday November 20th, Cpl. Eddie Akins and Sgt. William Vickers responded to a deer dogging complaint out from Brooklet. Investigation of the complaint resulted in five violations for operating a vehicle without permit number displayed, two violations for hunting deer without a deer dog license, one violation for hunting deer with unmarked dogs, one violation for hunting without a big game license and one violation for hunting without a license being documented.
On Sunday November 28th, Cpl. Eddie Akins responded to a complaint about two deer dogs being shot and killed. The dogs and tracking collars were located. The incident is still under investigation at this time.
EFFINGHAM COUNTY On November 27th, Sgt. William Vickers checked a dove shoot and issued citations for Hunting without License, Failure to Participate in Harvest Information Program, and Hunting with Unplugged Shotgun.
On November 8th, Cpl. Shaymus McNeely responded to a complaint in reference to a caught deer dog on hunting club. A total of two dogs were caught.
On November 14th, RFC Brandon Pierce met with the subject to check hunting license and record the violation. One violation of failure to keep hunting dogs on permitted property was documented.
On November 26th, RFC Brandon Pierce responded to a call in reference to deer dogs running on a still hunting club. Arriving at the scene a total of one dog was caught. The owner of the dog was contacted and met with. Two violations were documented. The violations consisted of hunting with unmarked dogs and failure to keep hunting dogs on permitted property.
On November 27th, RFC Brandon Pierce received a call in reference to a caught deer dog on private property. One violation of failure to keep hunting dogs on permitted property was documented.
APPLING COUNTY On Thanksgiving morning, RFC Altman was called out to a dove shoot. Upon further investigation, the field was found to be baited with cracked corn. Five citations were issued which included hunting over bait, hunting w/o a license, and unlawful enticement of wildlife.
On November 28th RFC Altman was working a complaint on a hunting club for illegal activity. One hunter was checked on the club. Three citations were issued, which included nonresident hunting w/o nonresident big game license, nonresident hunting w/o license, and hunting deer w/o fluorescent orange.
That night a detail was organized in the county with the aid of an airplane to work night hunting. Captain Klingel, Sargent Reckley, Corp. Williams, Corp. Simmons, Corp. Stokes, Corp. Winters, Corp. Barnard, RFC Britt, RFC McLaughlin, RFC Partin, RFC Hilton, and RFC Kicklighter all assisted in the detail. Two trucks were stopped resulting in 18 citations being issued. All for hunting from a vehicle, hunting from a public road, and hunting deer at night.
COFFEE COUNTY On November 25th, RFC Joe Hilton was on patrol checking baited deer stands. This patrol resulted in three individuals being cited for hunting big game over bait, one for hunting without fluorescent orange and one without a hunting license and hunting without a big game license. During this patrol RFC Hilton responded to a dove shoot where six individuals were charged with hunting doves over bait, three without a hunting license and one with hunting with an unplugged shotgun. Also RFC Hilton responded to another dove shoot where three individuals were cited for hunting with an unplugged shotgun and one individual with hunting without a license.
On November 26th, RFC Hilton responded to a dove shoot where eighteen individuals were charged with hunting doves over bait and four with hunting without a license. Also on the 26th, RFC Hilton was checking baited deer stands and two individuals were charged with hunting big game over bait and one was issued a warning for hunting without fluorescent orange.
On the 27th, RFC Joe Hilton was on patrol checking baited deer stands and this patrol resulted in one individual being charged with a non-resident hunting without a big game license and several warnings for hunting without required fluorescent orange. Also on the 27th RFC Hilton was called to assist Captain Klingel on a vehicle stop for hunting deer at night. This stop resulted in five individuals being charged with hunting deer at night, hunting from a vehicle and hunting big game from a public road.
On November 28th, RFC Hilton was on routine patrol checking baited deer stands and one individual was charged with hunting big game over bait and hunting without required fluorescent orange.
TOOMBS COUNTY On November 23rd, Cpl. Jon Barnard responded to an in progress complaint of hunting without permission. Cpl. Barnard located one hunter who had permission to hunt the property but was hunting deer without licenses or a fluorescent orange vest. Citations were issued for hunting without a license, hunting without a big game license and warned for hunting deer without fluorescent orange.
On November 26th, Cpl. Jon Barnard was checking baited deer stands on a complaint and located two hunter's one adult and one juvenile hunting deer where shelled corn was spread in front of the stand. The adult hunter was issued citations for hunting big game over bait and hunting deer without fluorescent orange.
On November 27th, Cpl. Jon Barnard and RFC Clint Jarriel investigated a complaint of non-resident hunters hunting without licenses and hunting over bait. The officers located four non-resident hunters in the complaint area; one hunting over bait without licenses, one hunter hunting off of property without permission and no licenses or fluorescent orange and two hunting without a license. The officers issued the hunters seven citations and three warnings.
Region VII- Brunswick (Coastal)
BRANTLEY COUNTY On November 20th, Cpl. Billy Reed was working a night deer hunting complaint on the Thomas Field. At 12:50 the occupants of a black ford F-150 truck shined a spotlight into the field. Cpl. Reed stopped the truck and located a spotlight, and a 12GA shotgun. He issued citations for hunting at night, hunting from a public road, and hunting from a vehicle.
On November 20th, Cpl. Billy Reed responded to an in progress dogging deer complaint on the Jess Allen Road. Citations were issued for hunting on non-permitted property, hunting from a public road, hunting without a license, and operating a motor vehicle without a dog deer permit number displayed.
On November 20th, Cpl. Billy Reed was working a dogging deer complaint on the White Road. He cited one hunter for Dogging Deer on Non-Permitted Property, and Hunting without a Deer Dog License.
BRYAN COUNTY On November 20th, Cpl. Phillip Scott received a call about hunting without permission. Cpl. Scott was able to catch the individuals hunting and cited them both for hunting with permission.
CAMDEN COUNTY On November 14th, Sgt. Chris Hodge and Cpl. Jesse Cook responded to an in-progress complaint of fishermen stealing crabs from a commercial crabber's traps. Sgt. Hodge located the boat that was still fishing. Cpl. Cook arrived on the scene and watched the boat and its occupants until it came back to the boat ramp at which time Cpl. Cook confronted the two men concerning the theft. Both men admitted to stealing the crabs from the crab trap. Citations were issued for working traps of another without permission and fishing without a license.
On November 16th, Sgt. Chris Hodge and RFC Craig Smith returned to a location in Camden County to assist the Glynn County Police Department with attempting to locate a bag of money and a shotgun from an armed robbery of a bank in the previous week. DNR officers used GPS coordinates taken by Glynn County investigators from the GPS located in the suspect's vehicle and were able to find a location that the suspect has stopped during the pursuit. A Glynn County Police K-9 was then able to quickly locate a black duffle bag containing over $20,000.00 taken from the bank robbery. The K-9 also located clothing believed to have been worn by the suspect during the robbery.
GLYNN COUNTY On November 20th, Sgt. John Harwell, while on routine patrol stopped and checked two hunters off Pennick Rd. Two citations were issued, one for hunting without a license, and the other for hunting without a big game license.
On November 21st, RFC Rebekah Huson and RFC Craig Smith responded to an SOC call regarding a drowning at a local fishing camp. Sgt. John Harwell was notified. All three officers responded to the location. Upon initial investigation it was determined that the individual had fallen overboard from his docked vessel. The investigation is ongoing at this time.
LONG COUNTY On November 16th, Cpl. Bobby White responded to an in progress night hunting call in the Rye Patch area. Cpl. White set up in a field and noticed a vehicle driving down the highway shining a light from the window. The truck was stopped; there was a loaded .308 rifle inside. The occupant of the vehicle was issued a citation for hunting deer at night, hunting from public road and hunting from vehicle. Cpl White then returned to field when a second vehicle came down the highway shining a light from the vehicle. That vehicle was stopped and there was a 30-06 rifle inside. The three occupants were also issued citations for hunting deer at night, hunting from public road and hunting from a vehicle.
On November 20th, Sgt. Bob Lynn received a report from Wayne Memorial Hospital of a person that was shot in a hunting incident. Sgt. Lynn made contact with the victim to obtain details of the incident. The incident is still under investigation at this time.
