This June, Adopt-A-Stream staff and volunteers embarked on a week-long monitoring effort on the waters of the Chattahoochee Rivers as part of Paddle Georgia, a project of the Georgia River Network. For over 15 years, Paddle Georgia has provided an opportunity for hundreds of community members to experience a seven day paddle and camping trip on a different Georgia river each summer. Paddle Georgia trips connect Georgians to their rivers so that they might be inspired to advocate for Georgia waterways. Participants enjoy educational speakers, workshops, catered meals, and community during this week long adventure. This year's Paddle Georgia trip was held June 19-25 over nearly 100 miles of the Chattahoochee River (from Settlers Bridge Park to Riverside Park).
Congratulations to all the paddlers who participated in our volunteer workshop! Three people practiced using AAS monitoring protocol for sampling water chemistry in a beautiful setting on the banks of the Chattahoochee, became

volunteers and the monitoring team for another fun and successful trip!

Adopt-A-Stream (AAS) staff attended the 2022 paddle on the Chattahoochee River as part of our effort to collect water quality data on rivers across the state as well as educate participants on non-point source pollution and AAS programs. AAS staff and volunteers sampled a total of 83 sites throughout the week, which included 25 mainstem sites, 46 tributaries, and 12 Outfall and NPDES sites (National Pollutant Discharge Elimination System sites including Wastewater Treatment Plants). Samples were tested for AAS core chemical parameters (water temperature, pH, dissolved oxygen and conductivity) as well as E. coli bacterial levels.
Adopt-A-Stream staff utilized two ProDSS Multiparameter Digital Water Quality Meters to measure pH, dissolved oxygen, temperature, and conductivity at each sample location. This allowed the sampling teams to save time when sampling chemical parameters at many sites in a short time period. These meters are true workhorses; check out their website to learn more, https://www.ysi.com/prodigital.
A summary of the trip's sampling results is present in the chart below, and complete results are available from the AAS State Office upon request. Interested in gaining a deeper understanding about the State of Georgia's surface water quality standards or recommended levels for specific parameters?
