Georgia's Child Obesity Epidemic Worsens - EE Efforts

Georgia's children recently moved from the third to the second most obese in the U.S., according to "F as in Fat: How Obesity Threatens America's Future 2010," a report from the Trust for America's Health and the Robert Wood Johnson Foundation. The report also cites the growing trend of farm-toschool programs as an effective school-based solution.
Opportunity to Share Your Thoughts on the Future of
Physical Education
What should physical education look like in the year 2020 and beyond? The National Association for Sport and Physical Education seeks to answer this question by inviting people to share their thoughts about the future of physical education. Environmental educators may wish to submit comments!

First Lady Michelle Obama recently announced plans to expand the "Let's Move" health and wellness campaign with activities and allies that include a key ingredient for optimal health -- nature! By linking parents to nearby parks, trails and waters -- and providing tips and ideas -- "Let's Move Outside!" will help families become healthier and develop a more active lifestyle.

Audubon International Training Webinars
To celebrate the mid-way point of the United Nation's Decade of Education for Sustainable Development, throughout 2010 Audubon International will be hosting a series of training webinars designed to help people become better stewards of the environment where they live, work, and play. Registration is free, but space is limited.
Education for Sustainability Fellows Program
The U.S. Partnership for Education for Sustainable Development (ESD) works toward full integration of ESD into education and learning in the United States. Its K-12 and Teacher Education Section is launching a national Education for Sustainability Fellows Program for K-12 teachers and administrators in both public and private schools. Apply by August 31, 2010.

EUGENE (Ecological Understanding as a Guideline for Evaluation of Non-formal Education) is a unique evaluation instrument for environmental education programs. They are looking for a few environmental educators to pilot test the new site and give them any final suggestions for improvement before it goes live. The deadline to sign up is August 15, 2010.
