EE Alliance of Georgia Conference - Call for Proposals Proposals for the 2010 Environmental Education Alliance (EEA) of Georgia Conference are now being accepted on the topic of Environmental Literacy: Consumer Choices (behavior), Knowledge, Skills Development and Partnerships for Environmental Literacy. All proposals must be submitted by September 14, 2009.
$1000 Scholarships for 2010 Monarchs in Mexico Trip Monarchs Across Georgia is pleased to offer $1000.00 scholarships to Georgia educators (formal or informal) who wish to travel to the monarch butterfly overwintering sites in Mexico February 6-13 or February 13-20, 2010. The deadline for receipt of applications is October 15, 2009.

2009 Georgia Outdoor Classroom Symposium Registration is Open
Georgia's 13th annual Outdoor Classroom Symposium will be held on Friday, October 30, 2009 at Chase Street Elementary School in Athens, GA. This year's theme of "Growing Fertile Minds" will feature sessions on how to create specific types of school gardens, how to start farm-to-school programs, and how to use your school grounds to enhance cross-curricular learning. Register by September 30 to receive the earlybird discount! Plus, enter the outdoor classroom photography contest for a chance to win free registration.
Zoo Atlanta Educator Appreciation Day - FREE!

Teachers Paddle Georgia!
Many teachers spent seven days paddling from Ellijay to Rome, a sojourn of some 92 miles, in the fifth annual Paddle Georgia excursion. This article profiles the Paddle Georgia experience of two Athens area teachers. Both educators received scholarships for the trip, and both became certified Adopt-A-Stream chemical testers and Project WET instructors.
Call for Recipes for White House Organic Garden
Author Clara Silverstein is creating a White House Kitchen Garden cookbook showcasing the fruits, vegetables and herbs grown in the Obama's new organic garden. She is inviting youth garden groups from around the country to contribute child-friendly recipes, along with garden photos and stories. Please submit recipes before September 15.

Teachers Needed for Pilot Program About Ocean Sustainability DigitalOcean is providing an opportunity for 200 middle and high school teachers and classrooms to participate in their pilot program DigitalOcean: Sampling the Sea, which aims to interactively educate the next generation of seafood consumers about declining global fish populations and implications for humans and oceans. Participating teachers will receive curriculum guides, exercises, online training and support to help them implement the program. When Learning Comes Naturally - TV Special WHEN LEARNING COMES NATURALLY profiles the efforts of four schools in New York, California and New Jersey to introduce children to the natural world and to involve them -- through outdoor play, class activities, and their own creative work -- in a process of outdoor discovery. The program will premiere on public television in early September, timed for the beginning of the new school year. Wetlands - Reconnecting Youth with Nature Webcast The EPA is offering access to its archived May 28, 2009 Webcast Seminar on "Wetlands Reconnecting Youth with Nature". Distinguished speakers Richard Louv, Chairman of the Children and Nature Network; Suzanne Pittenger-Slear, President and CEO of Environmental Concern Inc.; and Davon Kenneth Johnson, Earth Conservation Corp discuss the unique role wetlands can play in reconnecting young people with nature.
