It's Time to Schedule EE Programs!
Welcome back to school! Now is the time to reserve dates for your 2009-2010 EE programs. Additional "in-house field trips" are being offered by Georgia's EE Organizations this year. Schools are also making more use of activity boxes available for loan. In addition, the Target company is offering grants to help fund school field trips. Georgia Recycling Coaliton Honors Three Schools for Excellence in
Recycling
The Georgia Recycling Coalition (GRC) will honor three schools at its 18th annual conference in St. Simon's Island, Georgia on August 25, 2009. The Spirit of Green Awards is in its second year of annually recognizing excellence in recycling and waste reduction in Georgia.

Georgia Teacher Honored for Excellence in Science Teaching
Halley Page of Fowler Drive Elementary School in Athens, GA was recently named the winner of a prestigious Presidential Award for Excellence. Halley's school features an ethnobotanical garden including 12 irrigated raised beds of cool-weather crops like broccoli, collard greens and cabbage. After students return this August, more perennials for the "world garden" will be planted.
Save the Date - 2009 Georgia Outdoor Classroom Symposium
Georgia's 13th annual Outdoor Classroom Symposium will be held on Friday, October 30, 2009 at Chase Street Elementary School in Athens, GA. This year's theme of "Growing Fertile Minds" will feature sessions on how to create specific types of school gardens, how to start farm-to-school programs, and how to use your school grounds to enhance cross-curricular learning. Registration will open on August 17, 2009! Plus, enter the outdoor classroom photography contest for a chance to win free registration.

Save the Date - 2010 EE Alliance of Georgia Conference
Please save the date for the Environmental Education Alliance (EEA) of Georgia Conference to be held March 19 - 20, 2010 at Kennesaw State University in Kennesaw, GA! This year's theme of "Environmental Literacy" will provide Sessions, field trips and keynote speakers to help attendees increase their environmental knowledge, skills and behaviors.
