2009 Georgia Outdoor Classroom Symposium - 1 Week Left to
Preregister!
Georgia's 13th annual Outdoor Classroom Symposium will be held on Friday, October 30, 2009 at Chase Street Elementary School in Athens, GA. This year's theme of "Growing Fertile Minds" will feature sessions on how to create specific types of school gardens, how to start farm-to-school programs, and how to use your school grounds to enhance cross-curricular learning. You may preregister online up until October 23, 2009. After this date, online registration will close and all registration will be held onsite.

The Environmental Education Alliance (EEA) of Georgia is pleased to offer mini-grant awards for up to $1,000 for Environmental Education / Performing and Visual Arts Projects in honor of Environmental Educator, Petey Giroux (1945-2008).

EcoSense for Living from Mother Nature Network This four-part video series from the Mother Nature Network gives great advice on getting a new generation to enjoy the outdoors. Includes videos on "Nature Deficit Disorder," Nature and ADHD/ ADD, the wild side of urban communities, and ideas about reconnecting kids and nature. Know Your Farmer, Know Your Food The U.S. Department of Agriculture's Know Your Farmer, Know Your Food Initiative will help school administrators transition to purchasing more locally grown foods. "Farm-To-School Tactical Teams will soon begin touring America's school cafeterias to identify challenges and opportunities to help them transition to purchasing more locally grown foods. Call for Manuscripts for Comparative Education Review The journal Comparative Education Review is requesting manuscripts for a special 2010 issue, "Educators and the Environment: World Lessons for a Sustainable World". They seek critical assessments of existing model programs and policy initiatives in environmental education and education for sustainable development at the school, local community, national, and international levels. The issue is anticipated to appear in August or November 2010.
