2008 Outdoor Classroom Symposium
Georgia's annual Outdoor Classroom Symposium will take place on Friday, November 14, 2008 at Rock Eagle 4-H Center in Eatonton, GA. This year's theme is "My Space is Outside: Connecting Kids to the World Wide Wonders of the Outdoors." Registration is now open!

2009 GSTA Conference - Call for Proposals
Proposals for the 2009 Georgia Science Teachers Association (GSTA) Conference are now being accepted. Deadline for receipt of proposals is October 24, 2008.

"No Child Left Inside" Legislation Update The No Child Left Inside Act of 2007 (H.R.3036) includes funding for states to expand environmental and outdoor education programs. States would also will receive money to develop plans to make sure graduates are "environmentally literate." The No Child Left Inside Act is heading to a vote in the House of Representatives on Tuesday, September 9th. Child Nutrition Program Includes Provisions for School Gardens and Local Food The USDA is preparing for the 2009 Reauthorization of the Child Nutrition Programs. The act contains several provisions that could affect school gardens and the use of local food. Comments have been requested and may be submitted by October 15, 2008. "Magic of Recycling" Show Coming to Georgia Timothy Wenk is bringing his "Magic of Recycling" show to Georgia this fall. If you'd like to get in on the act while he's in the state, please contact him.
USA Today: Environmental Education Gets a Green Light The "Environmental Education Gets a Green Light" story ran in a recent issue of USA Today. Interest in environmental education appears to be soaring. Teachers are working to integrate envinmental education into the required curriculum in order to prepare their students for the future. Georgia EE Lesson Plans Now Posted! Just in time for the 20082009 school year, the Georgia Environmental Education (EE) lesson plans have been revised to address Georgia Performance Standards (GPS) and published on the Georgia Standards Online (GSO) Web site.
