National Children & Youth Garden Symposium - Call for Proposals American Horticultural Society's 16th annual National Children & Youth Garden Symposium, "Common Ground: Gardens for a Greener Tomorrow," will be held July 23-25, 2009 in Cleveland. Proposals are being accepted now December 15, 2008.

In this course, you will travel to the Andean Mountains of Ecuador, visiting a high elevation cool cloud forest and the paramo, a tropical tundra environment. You will explore the ecology of these regions and sustainable development projects in the region. This course is supported by the Teacher Quality Higher Education program, which covers expenses (room, board, travel) in Ecuador. Participants must pay for airfare to Ecuador. 6 PLUs. The application deadline is January 6, 2009.
EE Alliance of Georgia Conference Scholarships
EEA encourages anyone with financial need to apply for a conference scholarship. Preference will be given to presenters; first-time attendees; and those who enhance diversity through their profession, community affiliations, region of the state, culture, and/or age group. A limited number of scholarships are available. Apply by January 16, 2009.
Register Now for National EE Week
National Environmental Education Week (April 12-18, 2009) promotes understanding and protection of the natural world by actively engaging K12th grade students and educators of all subjects in an inspired week of environmental learning and service before Earth Day. Register before January 30, 2009 to receive a free copy of National Geographic Explorer magazine.
NAAEE Call for 2009 Conference Proposals
The North American Association for Environmental Education (NAAEE) has issued a call for presentations and workshops for its Annual Conference and Research Symposium "The Power of Partnerships: Creative Leadership in Environmental Education" in Portland, Oregon, October 6-10, 2009. The submission deadline for both conference and symposium is February 1, 2009.
Musical Mark's Bat Education Tour Is Coming to Georgia!
A tour of Georgia schools, museums, and nature centers by children's singer songwriter Musical Mark is scheduled for March 19-31, 2009. The tour will feature songs from Mark's new CD "We're Just Hangin' Out" which contains songs entirely devoted to bats.

Nature-Deficit Disorder Survey Have students fill out this "Nature Deficit Disorder Survey" as either homework or as a classroom exercise. National EE Week organizers will compile the data and share the results! Wetlands & Wonder Video: Reconnecting Children with Nearby Nature This 14-minute video was produced by the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency discusses the loss of wetlands and the effect that the loss of natural areas closest to us has on our connection to the natural world. Urban and suburban wetlands are valuable resources to be restored, protected and enjoyed and can play a key role in improving the health of our children and our communities.
