SB 21

Georgia Veterans Service Foundation, Inc.; revise operations
Bill Summary: Senate Bill 21 revises provisions related to the Georgia Veterans Service Foundation by expanding the number of board directors from seven people to a range of seven to 13 people and specifying that at least four of the members have served a certain amount of time in the armed forces or National Guard or reserves. SB 21 reduces the term of members from seven years to three years and increases the meeting frequency from annually to quarterly. Lastly, the bill allows the commissioner of the Department of Veterans Services to appoint a chief executive officer.

SB 217

"Eliminating Ghost Plates Act"; enact
Bill Summary: SB 217 provides a penalty for the obstruction or misrepresentation of a vehicle's license plate. A first offense will receive a fine of $250 unless an individual shows to the court the obstruction or misrepresentation has been removed. Such fine shall not exceed $25. The penalty for a second offense is $500. A third or subsequent offense will receive a fine no less than $750 and imprisonment of no less than 15 days. Any additional offenses may result in the forfeiture of the vehicle.

The bill provides procedures for the commissioner to revoke and seize license plates or renewal decals for a vehicle with offenses relating to a fraudulent license plate.
