Legislative Day # 9

Today on the Floor:
Today the House convened at 1:00pm for legislative business. Rep. Clay Cox (RLilburn) introduced the Chaplin for the Day, Clark Craiger, who spoke to and led the Assembly in devotion. After the morning orders, Rep. Tom Bordeaux (D-Savannah) spoke at the well regarding the issue of medical malpractice.
Only one piece of legislation made its way to the floor today. H.B. 98 sponsored by Rep. Rich Golick (R-Smyrna) unanimously passed the House by a vote of 174:0. Minority Leader Dubose Porter (D-Dublin) offered a technical amendment to the bill with the consent of Rep. Golick which passed as well. Rep. Lynn Smith (R-Newnan) also spoke at the well on the bill's behalf.
The House of Representatives also named Saturday, March 12, 2005 as Family Day for the Georgia General Assembly. This day has also been the date set for lawmakers to introduce and debate legislation which will repeal existing laws in the Georgia Code that are found to without merit.
House Bills Passed:
H.B. 98 "The Georgia Land Conservation Act", unanimously passed the House with a vote 174:0. The bill, sponsored by Rich Golick (R-Smyrna), Governor Perdue's Floor Leader, creates the Georgia Land Conservation Council, a Trust Fund, and a Revolving Fund to provide local cities, counties, and the Georgia Department of Natural Resources grants and/or loans, if eligible, to purchase land for conservation purposes.
* The House will be back in session on Tuesday morning, February 1 at 10:00am.

There will be no legislation scheduled for the floor tomorrow morning because the House Rules Committee did not meet this morning to set the Calendar.

The House Rules Committee will meet tomorrow morning, Tuesday, February 1 at 9:00am in Room 341 (Appropriations Room).
