State Representative David Knight Applauds the Passage of Several House Bills on Crossover Day
ATLANTA Monday marked "Crossover Day," the 30th legislative day of the Session, which serves as the last day for bills to be taken up by their originating chamber. The passage of three score plus bills left the entire House of Representatives tired but happy following the adoption many meaningful pieces of legislation before the Senate's official cut off for accepting House Bills.
Representative David Knight (R- Griffin) was pleased with the outcome of that very busy day, due to the passage of three of the bills that he authored this year.
House Bill 1160 would end double taxation on income for Georgians who are involved in an LLC in another state by adjusting the gross income on their tax returns, exempting that income from state taxes. "This will end the double taxation on certain Georgia Limited Liability Company's and let Georgia taxpayers keep more of their hard-earned money," Knight stated.
Additionally, House Members voted favorably on the passage of HB 1193. The bill addresses the use or installment of false or secret compartments in vehicles, as well as defining punishments for such. "This bill is another tool our law enforcement officers and prosecutors will have to fight a never ending war on drugs," the author remarked.
Vicious dogs were also on the day's agenda via House Bill 1497. The legislation aims to provide safety and awareness throughout communities concerning the presence of vicious dogs located there. Termed "Mercedes Law," it also calls for the proper enclosure of these animals and addresses consequences of noncompliance with the new law.
Following the passage of HB 1497, Knight said, "This bill ensures that irresponsible dog owners are held accountable for the actions of animals they know to be vicious. Hopefully this legislation will prevent future senseless attacks and severe injuries to innocent children and adults."
