State Representative Mike Keown Welcomes DARE Officer of the Year
ATLANTA State Rep. Mike Keown (R-Coolidge) welcomed Deputy Steve Jones, the 2005-2006 DARE Officer of the Year. Brought onto the House Chamber Floor by an Invite Resolution, Dep. Jones was introduced and honored in front of the entire Georgia House of Representatives, for his commitment and vital contributions to educating the young people of this state.
Deputy Jones has served as a member of the Thomas County Sheriff's Department since 1993, where he was instrumental in securing over $200,000 in grant funds to update and advance departmental equipment and technology.
Additionally, Jones has instructed numerous D.A.R.E. elementary groups, coordinated neighborhood watch groups, conducted alcohol and drug awareness programs, earned accreditation as a child safety seat technician and has orchestrated a school safety plan for the Thomas County School System.
"Through the years, Steve Jones has been an individual who's really made a difference for young people in Thomas County," Representative Keown stated.
