Speaker Richardson Announces Departure of Chief of Staff Jay Walker

ATLANTA Speaker of the House Glenn Richardson (R-Hiram) announced today that his chief of staff, Jay Walker, will leave public service to enter the private sector. Walker has served Speaker Richardson since Republicans took control of the House two years ago. Walker will remain as a consultant during the transition to a new chief of staff.

"Jay is not only a trusted advisor and dedicated worker, but also an invaluable friend. He has been a constant source of wisdom and insight, and our state is better off because of him," said Richardson. "We will all miss him tremendously, but wish him the absolute best as he moves forward. I feel truly blessed to know and to have worked with Jay."

"Glenn is like a big brother to me," said Walker. "We are not just employee and employer, but also friends. I will remember my time with Glenn as the most enjoyable of my career. His leadership and conviction are unwavering, and I will carry the lessons he taught me wherever I go."

Prior to serving as chief of staff for Speaker Richardson, Walker worked for the House Republican Caucus and was the force behind the Republican take-over of the House in 2004.

During Walker's time as chief of staff, Republicans passed the strongest illegal immigration bill in the country; reduced class sizes and restored discipline to the classroom; brought about the strongest ethics reform in the history of Georgia; and brought their majority in the House to 106.
